Description

The Rookery is a serene, low-density community located adjacent to the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge. The cottage is fully furnished and equipped with everything you need for an enjoyable stay. The master bedroom features a queen bed, the second bedroom has a king-size bed, and the third bedroom offers a full-size bed. Additionally, there's a full-size sofa in the living area that can be used for additional sleeping space if needed. The kitchen is fully equipped with a microwave, dishwasher, and ice maker. The unit also includes a washer and dryer for your convenience. Three streaming smart TVs are available in the unit, along with new fiber internet, perfect for your entertainment.

The Rookery was designed as a quiet resort adjacent to the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge. You can play games outside with the kids, go birdwatching, or walk the trail to Mobile Bay. Explore one of the Bon Secour marked trails with your family nearby. Historic Fort Morgan is only six miles away, or take the ferry to Dauphin Island and visit Fort Gaines or the Sea Estuary. Two championship golf courses are within a couple of miles, without the traffic or crowds. A short drive into Gulf Shores allows you to visit Waterville, the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, or The Track, offering amusement park rides and arcade games. Numerous restaurants also await you. Drive up to Foley and visit the Tanger Outlet, a large outlet mall. A marina, boat dock, and local restaurants are nearby. Tennis rackets and beach supplies are provided for your convenience.

For reservations during the Winter Season (January and February) made before October 1st, a minimum stay of 60 days (two months) is required. Reservations that don't meet this criterion are subject to cancellation by management. After October 1st, reservations for the winter months may be made for a minimum of three or seven nights, depending on unit specifications.

The Rookery is professionally managed by Poole & Associates.

Additional information:

Parking passes are required and can be purchased upon arrival or by contacting the management office directly, with a maximum of two parking passes allowed per reservation, accommodating up to two cars. Linens are provided; however, guests are encouraged to bring their own beach towels. The reservation includes a "starter set" of hand soap, one roll of toilet tissue per bathroom, one trash bag per trash can, and one roll of paper towels.

Guests must be at least 25 years of age or older to rent this property, and photo ID is required at check-in. Smoking is not permitted, and pets are not allowed.

Cute beach cottage

Adorable beach cottage. I was looking for somewhere a little quieter but still near the beach and this condo was the perfect fit! Location to the beach was excellent, a short walk or super quick drive (next time we will probably rent a golf cart) and the small pool in the backyard was quiet and felt like our own private pool. The large pool was great too. The house was comfortable and large enough for our family. The screened in porch was nice for early mornings and late nights. Mattresses were very comfortable. My only suggestions were to have an info sheet for the guests detailing specifics: paths to the beach, where the dumpsters are, etc. The kitchen was adequately stocked but could use a few extras, a pizza cutter, a can opener that actually works, a few bigger pans for cooking. But overall a nice find that we plan to visit again!

Vacay/wedding get away

I really enjoyed my stay at the Rookery 111. I brought my family for a vacation on top of sister wedding and it was very nice, it was peaceful and off in quite area, Beach house was very clean , staff was very friendly and on top of that you have a pool area right outside your door and the beach is right across the street. We enjoyed our stay very much. I loved how quiet and private the area is to stay in. Having a little house to ourselves was very nice. It's a good drive out to The Rookery but for something private it was worth it. I will say the house needs a few updates---the fridge made some horrible racket and the carpets in the bedrooms could use an update. There were some "stained" spots on them. But overall a nice little place to stay! I would definitely want to rent again in The Rookery!

We enjoyed our stay. The only concern we have is that maintenance should check the seal on the north window in the bedroom. When the wind blows from the north, it "whistles" though the window. Very comfortable and clean. Nicely decorated! Highly recommend!

The area was quiet and well maintained. The house was roomy with everything we needed. The pool right by the front door was great also. Just wished it had been heated. Being able to swim this time of year would have been awesome.

This was the nicest, cleanest VRBO I've ever been in. Poole and Associates provided everything I'd need while there. I was really concerned about cleanliness due to Covid-19. I selected this property due to the location and the amenities. A smaller rental community. It was better than expected. It was spacious, screened in porch. The unit provided everything you'd ever needed. It was perfect. I'm already planning my next trip back. The property was exactly like it looked on site, but even better.

Perfect for a family

We loved our stay at the Rookery. Having the pool next to the cottage was perfect and we were the only ones using it most days. We brought a golf cart so the trip to the beach was super easy and fast with small children. The beach was not crowded which is what we we looking for this year due to Covid. We did get a “warning” for the trailer we brought our golf cart in. We were unaware there was a specific place in the resort for trailer parking, but it really wasn't a big deal. Overall, we would stay in this resort again.

The house was very clean and cute. Everyone slept comfortably. The only thing negative I would have to say is, the WIFI was unreliable and we couldn't get good cell phone service (AT&T). Normally, WIFI issues would not be a problem on vacation but during a pandemic, this vacation was about downtime and just hanging out. But overall, it's a great house!

Very nice house close to beach and pool had everything you would need. Only negative would be all the appliances were dated and very noisy and tv small with not much sports. All in all nice place that I would recommend.

Nice house

Pros: spacious, nicely decorated and beds were comfortable. Pool was close by. Floats ,beach toys and tennis rackets available for use. Nice local residents! Con: Need more outdoor seating , only 2 chairs , for a house which can sleep 6. No electric hand mixer or blender. Directions on how to use the universal remote would be helpful. Driving access to beach was blocked due to construction of a house. Hoses across the road.

Nice Place but Amenities Were Weak

Nice 3 bedroom house but the amenities were really lacking. We've stayed at an Air BNB that was owned by a husband and wife and they know how to roll out the red carpet. But being a company as Poole is, the perception is that you go cheap. For ex: 1 Ply toilet paper and 1 roll per bathroom for the week. 1 small roll of paper towels. 1 dishwashing pod to clean dishes for the week. Queen size bed frame doesn't fit the Queen size bed. The King bed creaks every time you move. Might be the headboard but very annoying. There's no Keurig coffee maker, just the old style. There's only one receiver for the TV so whoever has the Queen size bedroom MUST watch what the people are watching in the main TV room. There's no TV in the room with the King size bed. There's no grill at the house so you have to use the community grill. You could walk to it but easier to drive since you'll be grilling meat. No reason with technology nowadays that you can't have a keypad on the door with a special PIN for the arriving guests. You can have the parking passes already in the house, thus eliminating the checking in and out 20 minutes from the property. Overall, it's a nice place and the small pool being right outside the front door is great. Being on 1/4 - 1/2 mile from the beach is nice too. Not sure if this is how all Poole & Associates properties are but will definitely be reading other reviews of other properties in the future. We're heading back to Gulf Shores next June so we'll see.

Would definitely stay at The Rookery again! Very happy with the cottage and pool. The beach was within walking distance, but since we like to take an umbrella, cooler, etc we often drove the short 2 minute drive to the beach.

A Treasure in the Sand

This is a WONDERFUL vacation destination!!! It is close to the beach, quiet and feels like a home away from home. If your looking for a nice place to stay that is cozy, comfortable and calming, this is IT.The owner was a pleasure to talk to, and made sure I knew what was available on the property and in the surrounding area. There is a pool just outside the front door which is very convient. At night, it was REALLY relaxing going to sleep to the sound of the waves. This is a vacation spot you will not regret renting. My family and I are looking forward to staying here really soon.

We just returned from Gulf Shores 4-13-10 and stayed in this house. This is a nice place to stay, very well kept and clean. Lots of room, furniture in good shape, complete kitchen. We had no faults with the house itself. Our only problem were stinging gnats. The pool is very close to the house and there is a swamp in the back of the house so that probably contributed to them. Because of the gnats we were not able to use the pool at all. Very disappointed in that because the weather was perfect. Going to and from the car made it hard too because of their swarming. While none of that is the owners fault, I just want to bring it to the attention of anyone that is considering using this house. Advice...Bring insect repellant.The house is located in a remote area. If you like privacy, away from big crowds then you will like this house. It is close to a beach area and to Ft Morgan but it takes a good 15 minutes to reach most restaurants, grocery stores, etc. Nice view of the gulf while driving and the different colored houses that sit on the beach.Our second day there the air conditioning went out. Thankfully the weather wasn't unbearable and with the gulf breezes it kept the house relatively comfortable. We did not have any a/c for 2 days but we let the owner know so it could be repaired.All in all we enjoyed our trip. Still recovering from many sting bites from those gnats though.

Could not have asked for more!

We were concerned with the oil spill what to expect of our vacation. Sloan answered concern and assured us we could cancel if we were unsure; he was so wonderful to deal with.The rental is terrific. Bedrooms are laid out 2 on one side of house and one on other. It does allow a little privacy. Very well maintained with colorful decor. Beds were very comfortable!!!The Rookery is so private that the noise is zero. Close enough to the beach that our teens were allowed to go alone. I loved having the pool directly outside of door. We treated it as "ours". also loved the screened porch. Very pleasant evenings were spent there.I would certainly recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing, peaceful retreat. The kids wanted to go into Gulf Shores more than i would have liked, but that is the price one pays for solitude.I hope to return to this property and hope to have a long relationship with Sloan and his family.

Perfect Family House

We went in April 2010, It was my husband and I, our 2 kids, my mother in law, brother in law and nephew. The house was PERFECT!! Very roomy, we werent crowded in the slightest! The house is even more beautiful in person! We had the pool, right outside the door all to ourself! Everything is a straight shot down the road a few miles. The beach is a nice pretty walk right across the street. The view out the kitchen window is GORGEOUS!!! You can see the pond/swamp out back and the pool. Very ralxing. Very big screened in porch where we spend every evening watching the sunset. Very quiet neighborhood. We WILL be back... my boys are calling it "THEIR house in Alabama!!"

What an awesome trip...

WOW!!! My family and I just returned from a week at this wonderful home. The house was furnished with very nice and comfortable furniture and having the pool so close was a huge plus. We found everything to be very well maintained and clean. It was wonderful to be so close to the beach, the pool and shopping. A Fort Morgan tour is a definite must do as is the ferry boat ride to Dauphine Island. If you want good pizza try Ocean's Pizza in the little shopping center just down the road. This is definitely a trip we will all remember for a lifetime. Thank you Sloan for being so very easy to work with. We will be renting from Sloan again soon I hope...

My husband, family, and I enjoyed this cottage very much!!! Very open and spacious. Very well kept and clean. Very helpful and generous owners. Close enough to Gulf Shores to be able to eat dinner out and go to all the shops, but far enough away that the beach wasn't too crowded to enjoy! We LOVED having the smaller pool right outside our door! Close enough to walk to the beach if we wanted! Overall, a wonderful stay for a great price! We will be back! :)

Worst trip ever!!

Information is false. It does not have 2 kings/2 flat screens and a full. There is one King, 1 queen/flat screen, and one full. The furniture is falling apart. The stovetop burners are all slanted. The water pressure is horrible. Don't flush while someone is showering, they will have no water. It says it sleeps 7, that 7th person will have to sleep in a leather recliner. The pictures show both pools but this unit only has access to the small one. The flies and gnats are so bad you can't enjoy being outside at night. We brought back about 100 bug bites between the 5 of us. The front door sticks and won't open sometimes. My son got locked out on the porch and my husband had to crawl out the window to work on the door handle. We ended up leaving the window unlocked just in case we had to crawl in again. We have been to many beach houses and this by far is the worst one we've ever stayed at. It really needs updating. We definitely will never be back.

Right before our trip, a very bad review of this house was posted. I have never been to this area before, so I was very concerned. Nothing to worry about. We were very pleased with the house. Though not on the beach, we were but a half mile away, and we parked in a public parking down Pizarro street, or sometimes at night just parked right by the beach entrance. I felt very safe in the area, and the whole beach was very family oriented. Nothing obnoxious or obscene, everyone was very nice. The house fit our family of fives needs just fine. Water pressure wasn't great, but wasn't a deal breaker. We loved the small alligator right behind the house! The pool is right outside our front door, and we were the only ones to use it our entire visit. That was nice! While I wouldn't describe the house as luxurious, we were comfortable there and the furnishings were adequate. Our beds were comfortable.

The listing description for this house was miss leading. It stated that it sleeps 7 and two of the rooms have king beds. It has only 1 king bed 1 queen bed and 1 full bed. There also is no TV in the second room as stated. The worst part was that it is in need of serious deep cleaning!!! The floors are so worn that just mopping them doesn't do the job, you still stick to them. The walls and doors have black hand prints and smudges all over them. There are a lot of cob webs on the ceilings and around the furniture. We had ants in the kitchen and in one of the rooms. They did come spray for them and it helped some. The water pressure in this unit is terrible!!! No one can touch the water if someone is using the shower, It just dribbles which makes it very hard to shower. The pictures of the unit must be from when it was new and have not been updated because the furniture pictured is in much better condition than it really is. Some of It needs to be replaced. The dresser drawers are missing or broke, the kitchen table defiantly has seen better days and the kitchen chairs have holes worn in them. Kitchen and bathroom cupboards have laminate pealing off the fronts of them. Bedding blankets and pillows also have holes in them also. The other family room furniture needs a good cleaning, it has A LOT of grime and dirt on them. I realize they get a lot of use and because of location they get a lot of wear, but this unit is really worn! Other family members stayed at the Rookery in another unit and it was in much better condition! As well they could have multiple people showering at the same time with no water pressure problems! I would not stay at this unit again. We were very disappointed in what we got.

We had a FaBULOUS time! So awesome! From clean linens to clean countertops ! Located by the pool - we loved it! Porch is cute! Loved the space for the $ ! We went to the.beach and came back but we so enjoyed the salt water pool!

Almost perfect

Our family of 6 had a wonderful time in this condo. It was the perfect size and we loved how it was beautifully decorated. I could sit on the screened porch and watch my older boys swim in the pool that was only a few steps from us. It was a nice surprise to find a portacrib available to use for our 2 yr old. And we all enjoyed the larger zero degree entry pool. It was only a 2 min drive to the public beach that was never busy. The only thing we had any issues with was water pressure. While Poole and Associates were great about sending a plumber out very quickly to see what they could do to fix the issue it was the only turn off. It looks like the need to adjust the pressure regulator. Hoping they can get this fixed for the next guest. We will definitely think about renting this property again as long as they can get the water issue resolved.

This was a great place for our family to go. It had all the accomodations that we needed. It was a very clean unit and we enjoyed all the room that it had to offer. The pool right outside the door was very nice. Our family were the only ones to use it. The home owner was very easy to work with. This is a great place to stay, and we will be renting this home again.

This is a very nice well kept home. My family and I enjoyed our stay and hated to leave. Very close to the beach and on the quiet side of the island. My kids loved being right next to the pool. We had it all to ourselves everyday. We are already talking about booking same time next year, thank you!
