It almost sounds as if we are cheating on summer when we say that fall is our favorite season but there is something almost magical about the Autumn season in Fort Morgan. The humidity lessens, the temperatures lower, and the whole area quiets down as the summer crowds dissipate and kids head back to school. We stay outside longer even as the sun sets earlier, we laugh louder and play harder, and when your fall journey involves a visit to our Alabama hometown and a stay in one of our Poole & Associates comfy cottages the magic of the season will burrow into your heart as well! This guide to the happiest Alabama fall activities Fort Morgan, Alabama will firmly place your fall escape to Fort Morgan on your personal list of best vacations ever!
Rise with the Sun
Ok, vacations are meant to be times where you sleep in as late as you want, but we hope that you take at least one day of your getaway to enjoy a Fort Morgan sunrise. Stepping out on the balcony of your sanctuary or walking over to where you can see the eastern sky and watch the cacophony of colors that cycle through the sky. Those early moments when the inky blackness fades to a charcoal gray and when the first streaks of pink begin to highlight the landscape, your heart will start to beat a little faster in anticipation. Finally, the vibrancy of fiery reds, oranges, and even the occasional fuchsia fills the sky, spotlighting the leaves on the trees below that have seemingly changed from verdant green to their only fiery hues overnight. This moment in time promises to be one you will remember forever, even as you slip back between the silky linens that top our premium mattresses and fall back to sleep for a couple of hours more!
Pancakes for Breakfast
Pancakes are great any time of the year, but in the fall, they seem to taste even better as their sweet warmth creates a balance to the cool morning air. Tacky Jacks Fort Morgan, 1577 AL-180, is known for their delicious dinners and lunches and is loved for its mouthwatering pancakes! Stop in after your sunrise viewing session, grab a seat with a view of the waters that make this part of Alabama special, and as you eat your pumpkin pancakes (fall flavors are so spicy!) staring out onto the sea, you will now understand why fall is your favorite season of all!
Explore Wade Ward Nature Park, 500 Gulf Shores Parkway
Offering walking trails and breathtaking views, Wade Ward Nature Park is a 4 season playground that sparkles brighter in the fall. Follow the boardwalk through the wild and untamed beauty of the foliage that may have already begun to “dress for fall” watching blue herons fishing for their meals and keeping track of the variety of birds you see along your hike. The park is one of the Alabama Coastal Birding Trail Sites and fall is when the migrations start, so visitors are destined to see a large variety of birds flying in from all over the nation! The boardwalks rise over the wetlands and on occasion alligators can be seen skimming just under the surface of the water, but you will remain safe and unmolested on the boardwalk above.
This Way to the Beach
September through November is the best time to visit this area of the country as many travelers have already returned to their real-life responsibilities and the beaches may feel as if they are your own personal playground! Spread out and relax as you frolic in still warm waters, feeling the sun kiss your cheeks as the waves tickle your toes. Build sandcastles at the shore’s edge with your littles, try your hand at boogie boarding, and let the serenity of the sea fill your soul. A cooler filled with your favorite snacks, sandwiches, and beverages will allow you to spend the entire day at the beach, and an umbrella stuck into the sand will give shade when your skin begins to pinken.

Yeah, we know, we are exaggerating more than a little but the truth is during vacation time we just don’t care. We have dieted to fit into our new swimsuits and denied ourselves all the little treats that make life more bearable, and now that we have arrived at our vacation destination we are trim, toned, and ready to enjoy a taste of the town! Poole & Associates understands your need to feed and we have provided this Gulf Shores dessert guide to the sweetest shops in town, ensuring that every bite you take will have your sweet tooth crying in delight!

If your craving has sugar in it, THIS may be a one-stop shop you will be reluctant to leave and we can personally vouch for nearly every item on its shelves! (Research! It’s all for RESEARCH!)
Matt’s Ice Cream, 701 Gulf Shores Parkway in Gulf Shores
Peanut butter and jelly, bacon and eggs, and a summer day and ice cream. These are some of the most popular food pairings and as we enter the dog days of summer, you can enjoy your time away from the beaches with an ice cream cone from Matt’s Ice Cream! Offering unique flavors made in small batches (flavors change regularly but our newest obsession is the peanut butter cookies and cream!) every lift of the spoon will bring you closer to your own private nirvana! Also offering sundaes, homemade candies, and a delightful blast from the past, rice krispy treats, Gulf Shores visitors are certain to become regulars during their stay!
Sweet Cone Alabama, 26651 Perdido Beach Boulevard Suite C in Orange Beach

As the final holiday of the summer season rolls around, many travelers are heading for the beach for the long weekend and if you are one of the many, Orange Beach, Alabama, should be at the top of your list! Blending the quiet peace of a small town with the majestic beauty of the sea, the white sand beaches, and turquoise waters will make you want to add our oceanside town to your list of places you want to return to in the future! This guide to Spend Labor Day 2022 In Orange Beach, AL in one of our Poole and Associates Orange Beach vacation homes will give you a peek into what a truly excellent vacation looks like!
No Laboring Allowed
Isn’t it wonderful that on a day devoted to our hardworking Americans, we don’t have to labor at all? Spend your day doing all the things you never get to do at home, including exploring the wonders awaiting you at the Orange Beach Golf Center & Driving Range located at 4700 Easy Street in Orange Beach! (We just love the name of the street, don’t you?) Offering a 9-hole par 3 course, putting and chipping greens, a lighted driving range, and even a practice sand bunker, the golf center promises to give golfers a day filled with fun and relaxation and absolutely no hard work!
Spend Time on the Sea
Of course, your weekend in Orange Beach is going to involve some beach time, but the most exciting way to enjoy the sea (in our humble opinions!) is by experiencing one of the tours offered by Cetacean Cruises. The dolphin tours are our absolute favorite, we just can’t get enough of those beautiful sea creatures chattering, splashing, and reminding us of the beauty of all earth’s inhabitants! Their Sunset Dolphin & Nature Cruise will bring you a deeper appreciation of nature as knowledgeable and personable tour guides take you into the estuaries along the back bays, pointing out and explaining all the interesting details of the flora and fauna found there! Availability can be limited during the holidays, so if this sounds fun to you, go ahead and reserve your space today!
A Step into the Past
Alabama has a long and rich history as can be expected from any coastal state and this section of the state was once where the British attacked twice; once in 1812 in a battle we won soundly and again in 1815, in a battle that didn’t have such a happy turnout. Fort Bower was the small fort that won and lost those battles, standing in during the construction of Fort Morgan that began in 1812 but was not completed until long after the war of 1812 had ended. Located at 51 Hwy 180 West, this historic structure is still standing proud and can be a fun way to spend a few hours of your Labor Day escape. At this point, they aren’t offering guided tours, but you and your family can still enjoy a self-guided exploration of the Fort.
Shop the Sales
Labor Day sales are always the best sales and although we can’t promise that everything you want is special, a visit to Tallulah’s Treasures, 25122 Perdido Beach Blvd #6209 in Orange Beach promises to offer a plethora of good deals! Seeking a colorful painting of a hummingbird or a tee shirt that tells everyone how much you love the beach? This special gift shop has exactly what you are looking for and so much more you won’t ever want to leave!
A Taste of the Town
If you don’t enjoy at least one fresh seafood dinner during your stay you will live to regret it and if you skip the opportunity to enjoy that seafood dinner at The Gulf, well, your life will continue on without much change, but it may not be as enjoyable as it would otherwise! Showing us that sustainable life can be delicious, The Gulf is built from shipping containers and enjoys a prominent place on Perdido Beach and offers an outdoor seating area that looks out over the sea, making their patio dining the most popular dining in town.
Spend Labor Day 2022 In Orange Beach, AL
There’s a lot to do during your Labor Day getaway to Orange Beach, but your favorite memories will be the minutes spent luxuriating in the comforts of your Poole & Associates Orange Beach escape. Spend the morning fishing and then cook it on barbecue grills that allow your outdoor time to continue, especially when you devour the catch of the day on tables found on balconies, patios, and decks. Create an all-American meal in our fully equipped kitchens, alternate your time between the beach and the pool in your condo community, and laugh out loud at the expressions on your children’s faces when you win a marathon game of Monopoly! Every minute will be your favorite when you choose our homes to celebrate the Labor Day holiday; pick your favorite today!
As you begin planning your Gulf Shores Alabama vacation escape, chances are your itinerary will never grow very big, not because there isn’t a lot to do in our coastal village on the shores of the Gulf, but because you have penciled in LOTS of time at the beach! Even your dining experiences, when not enjoyed at home in our comfortable and charming Poole & Associates vacation sanctuaries, will tend to be spent at beachside restaurants where you don’t have to take your eyes off the pristine white sand beaches and the turquoise waters that frame it for one second! This vacation is one designed for sea, sun, sand, and relaxation, and you are all in for the week! There is one exception, however, one very specific and very enjoyable activity that you have probably placed right under beach time and seafood dinners on your bucket list of Alabama activities and that is, of course, shopping! Whether you are stocking the pantry of your abode, seeking souvenirs, or are just curious about the wares and products offered on the Gulf Coast (as opposed to your desert hometown in Arizona!) you have more than likely slated a good bit of time for shopping and our guide to the best places to do so will help you cut to the chase and get back to the beach as quickly as you desire! Check out our top picks for the Best Places To Shop at The Alabama Gulf Coast.
At Home in Gulf Shores
The first shopping expedition of your Gulf Shores getaway will probably be to the grocery store to ensure that you have snacks and at least a couple of meal-fixing ingredients to tide you over between seafood restaurant visits. While not glamorous, groceries are necessary and you have a choice of chain stores to visit, including Publix or Rouses Market, but if you really want a taste of Alabama charm, we suggest you stop by Pier 33, a quaint general store filled with charm. Located right on the main strip at 900 W Beach Boulevard #6302, Pier 33 offers a great selection of groceries, souvenirs, or beach gear, and also sells beer and wine!
Souvenirs for Days
As you might expect from a beach town you can’t walk far without finding a shop in which you can purchase memorabilia from your time in paradise, but there are a few that we think you will especially love! Souvenir City, located at 217 Gulf Shores Parkway is about the size of a small city and is jammed to the rafters with everything Gulf Shores, including tees, mugs, magnets, and so much more! Walk into the shark’s mouth that just happens to be the entrance (after stopping for a picture or two, of course!) and be prepared to lose yourself in the colorful wares they sell within. LA (Lower Alabama) Gifts, 3800 Gulf Shores Parkway #330, is another popular gift shop in the area, offering gifts, beach gear, and souvenirs that are a little more expensive than the ones you will find in Souvenir City all of which can be found in a much more compact sized store! But if you were to hold our hands to the fire and demand which is our personal favorite gift store in Gulf Shores, it would have to be the Royal Standard, located at 3769 Gulf Shores Parkway. It is definitely a gift store in every sense of the word, featuring a huge selection of wares for everyone on your shopping list and even provides a very strong section for men which makes us wonder. Why can’t EVERY store be like the Royal Standard and provide a men’s section as well?
Boutiques That Will Wow
The boutiques of the world should all hope to be as fun and wonderful as some of our local ones, including Geez Louise Boutique, found at 701 Gulf Shores Parkway! Offering colorful clothing for women, all the accessories to complete any outfit, and a selection of gifts, we simply can’t stay away and have a feeling you will be the same way! The Beach House Boutique, 3800 Gulf Shores Parkway #320, ensures that you will be the best-dressed beachgoer in town, and Glitter & Dirt, 3800 Gulf Shores Parkway Suite 325 is proud to offer women’s and children’s wear that are high quality and so very cute!
Enjoy Best Places To Shop at The Alabama Gulf Coast
After meandering in and out of stores and lugging large bags of goodies with you everywhere you go, coming home to our Gulf Shores sanctuaries will be a treat you will look forward to every day! Drop your bags in the extra room, slip into that new romper you purchased at Glitter & Dirt, and head to the balcony for a little sea therapy! Every minute spent in our Poole & Associates homes away from home will be the best one; reserve your favorite today!
Welcome to Fort Morgan, where Alabama summers are relaxing, fun, and adventurous! The peacefulness of Fort Morgan comes from being a local beach town that doesn’t operate with the same bustling nature you’d find in a larger, more commercial city. The pace is what you set for yourself, the options of things to do plentiful and diverse. It’s the perfect place for a holiday getaway, especially with one of our Fort Morgan vacation homes. Fort Morgan is a small beach town that packs all the punch of other, much larger historical coastal cities. With excellent local history, incredible views of the peninsula, wonderful sunsets, and plush white sands, Fort Morgan is the peaceful vacation spot you’ve been looking for.
Adventures in Fort Morgan isn’t just sandy beaches. The Fort Morgan Trail stretches eleven miles on flat, walkable land. The trail is also great for bikers. The woods that line the path are a coastal blend of roots and forest with sand and the scent of salt on the breeze coming from the ocean nearby. It’s a relaxing way to spend the day away from the sweltering beach. Take cover from the Alabama sun under the canopy of trees that hang over the stretch of the trail, granting just enough sunshine to feel the day, but enough shade to escape it.
Breathtaking Views
Fort Morgan is often voted one of the best places in the Gulf Shores to watch a sunset. The brilliance of the setting oranges and pinks, fusing with the various shades of the sun’s many colors as it sinks into the horizon, is a spectacular sight to behold. The sunset casts gleaming light over the once emerald waters of the Fort Morgan beaches. It shines completely and for all to see, painting the serene town with the most incredible colors as the day comes to its end. It’s a perfect way to round out a day in Fort Morgan. There’s no better way to experience all this town in Alabama has to offer than when viewing it at both ends–daylight and its end.
Waterfront Rentals
July is the peak of the summer season, especially here in Alabama, and what’s great about the Poole and Associates rentals is that they are on the water. Equipped with accessible access to the beach, the rentals are not far from the water. There’s nothing more inconvenient than walking a distance under the hot sun and carrying all of your beach belongings, especially after the beach day is done. Wet, sandy, and tired, when you rent with Poole and Associates, you’ll just be a small distance from your rental. For your convenience, there is also a pool if the salt of the ocean becomes too much.
Poole and Associates rentals are spacious and open. With plenty of room for the whole party, no one will feel cramped. Each rental is equipped with a fully functioning kitchen so you can make your favorite meals or try some new recipes while you’re on vacation. The floorplans are open, so while someone’s at the stove, they won’t feel left out of any living room conversation or whatever is on the television.
Historical Fort Morgan
What better way to celebrate the Fourth of July–a holiday dedicated to the history of the United States’ freedom–than to spend time with the past? Fort Morgan Historic Site, located at 110 AI-180, is a 19th-century military fort. This incredible remnant was active in four wars: the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, and both World Wars. Fort Morgan has local significance, too. The Fort played a pivotal role in the Battle of Mobile Bay in 1864. When you visit Fort Morgan, you’ll see the brilliance of the Fort’s strategic seacoast defenses. If walls could talk, imagine the stories the walls of Fort Morgan could tell. Now, that doesn’t have to be a hard thing to imagine. So come down to Fort Morgan and let this site tell you for itself its story. After seeing the Fort, head to the museum for more history, then the gift shop to take some of it home with you.
The best part of visiting Fort Morgan? Everything you visit at the historic site will be covered under the cost of admission! Adults enter for $8 a person; senior citizens and children enter for $5.
Come Enjoy Adventures in Fort Morgan
Fort Morgan can’t wait to welcome you for the Fourth of July holiday and the others after that. This hidden gem of a town roars with teeming excitement and history that speaks so loudly it seeps into the spaces around it and imbues itself into the culture of the town. There’s nothing quite like visiting a small town with a big heart and an even bigger role of importance to the United States. Fort Morgan is the place to be this Fourth of July.
