Plan for Warm Days and Cool Nights in Orange Beach in March

The weather forecast is often the first thing we check when planning a getaway. March is a dry month for Orange Beach, offering just 6 days of rain on average, in comparison to the 12 days you can expect in August, the height of our rainy season. While it is possible that it may rain during your visit, most storms blow in and out relatively quickly, leaving you plenty of sunshine to continue your March adventures.

The temperatures may reach as high as the low 70s, with 72 degrees being the average March high. As the sun falls back into the Gulf and the moon rises, casting its ethereal glow over water and sand, the mercury may fall as low as 52 degrees, making your March getaway an idyllic vacation experience.

Spring Break Crowds?

Spring Break is fast becoming one of the most popular vacation times, especially as primary schools are offering longer breaks than ever before, and you may be worried that Spring Break crowds will make Orange Beach, Alabama, in March crowded, expensive, and uncomfortable for the average family. We are thrilled to be able to put your mind at ease, because even though the beaches will be more crowded as the sun shines brighter and the temperatures begin to remind us that summer is not far off, our Gulfside town still remains quiet.

Yes, there may be some college students enjoying their Spring Break at the beach, but we have one rule that keeps most of them away. Alcohol is banned on the beach from March 1st through April 28th, and that is a law that is strictly enforced with increased patrols helping to keep the peace. This means that although the beaches may be more crowded during your March visit, most of your fellow beach goers are going to be quiet families such as yours, enjoying sun, sand, surf, and family time.

Beach Days Are Good for the Soul

Obviously, one of the first questions you might have in mind is whether you will get to enjoy the beaches of Orange Beach during your March adventures, and the answer is a qualified yes. Yes, the sun will be shining during most days of your stay, and yes, 72 degrees could be considered warm enough for our cold weather guests to consider swimming, but you must remember that nights drop into the 50s. The chilly nights will keep the Gulf from warming up enough to feel comfortable swimming, but you may still want to spend a day at the beach anyway.

Building sandcastles with your kids and walking along water’s edge, feeling the sun warm your shoulders as cool waters snake around your ankles are beloved beach day activities that are destined to be the ones you remember fondly after returning home, even if you never find yourself swimming in our clear waters.

March Festivals for Added Fun

Orange Beach, Alabama, in March is an excellent month for festivals, as the excitement for summer starts to build. As you explore all the fun festivals held in March, you will enjoy a better understanding of Orange Beach and everything that makes it wonderful.

Ballyhoo Festival of Art, First Weekend in March, 20110 AL-135 in Gulf Shores

The Ballyhoo Festival of Art isn’t held in Orange Beach, but its location in Gulf Shores is so close to our Orange Beach retreats, you probably wouldn’t have known the difference if we hadn’t told you. This wonderful festival celebrates all the arts, offering live music, food vendors, and visual art vendors, ensuring that all your senses will be entertained. If the excitement stopped there, you would still feel as if you had experienced the best Orange Beach has to offer, but it offers so much more, including a cultural celebration that will bring you joy while giving you an authentic glimpse into our Gulf front town.

Orange Beach Festival of Art, Second Weekend in March, Coastal Arts Center

The most talented artists in the world are attracted to the most beautiful places in the world, and judging by the number of art shows that can be found in the Orange Beach area, our town is one of those beautiful places! The Orange Beach Festival of Art, held the second weekend in March at the Coastal Arts Center, is a celebration of all the arts, including visual, performing, literary, musical, and culinary. Costing nothing to attend and offering two stages on which the best live music will be played, this festival has been an OB staple for 50 years.

The Wharf Boat & Yacht Show, Third Weekend in March, The Wharf in Orange Beach

The Wharf is more than a mall. It is a gathering place for many local events, including the Wharf Boat & Yacht Show which is held every March, displaying over $100 million dollars’ worth of boats and marine products. This event gives us all a peek into how the other half lives, featuring high-end yachts to explore, but with over 120 vendors, live music, and many very delicious food vendors, you are sure to find something that you can’t resist that will be right in your price range. As far as the more expensive items, well, it’s always nice to dream, don’t you think?

More Ways to Play in March

The month of March is so beautiful, you will want to spend as much time as possible playing outside. It’s hard to stay indoors when you see the sun shining, when you know that the salt air will feel warm on skin that probably hasn’t felt sunshine in far too long. And although there are many indoor activities that we will discuss shortly, these next paragraphs are going to explore all the ways to play outside during your March visit to Orange Beach.

Sail Wild Hearts, 27101 Perdido Beach Boulevard, Open Daily 8AM Until 6PM

You may not want to swim in the still-too-cool waters of the Gulf, but that doesn’t mean you have to avoid it altogether, especially if you play on TOP of the water instead of under the water. Sail Wild Hearts is one of our favorite water adventures!

For those who visited the Wharf Boat & Yacht Show, you are probably still feeling a little bit of yacht envy, and Wild Hearts, a 53-foot yacht, will help ease the pain. Offering sunset cruises, dolphin tours, and a particularly exciting Dolphin and Blue Angel Sail, your time on the yacht will be memorable. The Dolphin and Blue Angel Sail mixes a dolphin cruise (snacks and beverages included) with the opportunity to see the Blue Angels fly in Pensacola and is generally only available from the very end of March through October, so be sure to check the schedule to discover if you will be able to engage in this exciting activity.

Hiking the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail, 24037 Perdido Beach Boulevard

The summer months may be a little too warm for hiking, but your March visit will be the perfect time to experience a hike or bike ride along the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail. Hikers and bikers can explore a variety of ecosystems along the trail, including forests of pine trees, coastal sands, and wetland alligator habitats. Pack a picnic lunch in your backpack—and if you are staying in our pet friendly escapes, snap a leash on your pooch—and plan on spending the entire day exploring all that makes the Orange Beach countryside one of the most beloved in the nation.

Orange Beach Fishing Charters & Saltwater Guides, 26619 Perdido Beach Boulevard

Although anytime is the perfect time to fish, and there are definitely seasons that are better for certain types of fish you may be seeking to catch, March is actually the beginning of the best fishing season, and Orange Beach Fishing Charters & Saltwater Guides is a fantastic company to try your hand at offshore angling. Offering a variety of excursions, they also provide little extras that not all charter companies will, including fish cleaning, free live bait, and a fishing license that is included with the price of the charter.

We really like that they own a number of different style boats, allowing guests to fish from a choice of catamarans or shearwaters. If you want to try your hand at deep sea fishing, they offer charters that go as far as 100 miles into the deep blue waters of the Gulf, giving you multiple options for a few hours (or a full day) of fishing excitement.

Time to Dine

Our Poole & Associates seasonal sanctuaries are known not just for their comfort, luxury, and prime beachfront locations, but also for their fully equipped kitchens that allow guests to stay in and cook a meal or two, saving money by not being forced to dine out for every meal. With that being said, however, Orange Beach is foodie destination spot, offering many, many restaurants that we hope you will have the opportunity to experience during your March visit. The restaurants listed below are just a few examples of our favorites, but be sure and stop in any that catch your eye; we can assure you that you won’t be disappointed.

Doc’s Seafood Shack & Oyster Bar, 26029 Canal Road, Open Daily at 11AM

The seafood of Orange Beach is fresher and sweeter than any you have sampled, and Doc’s Seafood Shack & Oyster Bar has long been one of our favorite places to take the family for a delicious seafood dinner offered at reasonable prices. Their Blue Plate Specials served at lunch are even more reasonably priced, offering a choice of protein and a choice of two sides, plus a corn muffin.

Ruby Slipper, 24151 Perdido Beach Boulevard, Open Daily From 11AM Until 2PM

You need to experience a good Southern breakfast at least once on your vacation, and we highly recommend Ruby Slipper, a local café known for its signature omelets and fluffy homemade biscuits. Often offering seasonal specials such as a Mardi Gras inspired menu that may still be available during your early March visit, we can assure you that every dish is worthy of being the dish you choose for your breakfast feast!

Book Direct Day 2026 is the perfect reminder that booking your vacation the right way can make a meaningful difference in both value and peace of mind. If you’re planning a getaway to the Alabama coast, there’s no better choice than reserving your Gulf Shores vacation rental directly with us at Poole & Associates. Booking direct allows you to skip unnecessary fees, enjoy personalized service, and start your vacation with confidence.

Gulf Shores is known for its welcoming coastal atmosphere, beautiful beaches, and relaxed pace that makes it a favorite for families, couples, and repeat visitors alike. Whether you’re planning a short escape or an extended stay, booking directly with Poole & Associates helps ensure your vacation experience is smooth, comfortable, and rewarding from the very beginning.

What Is Book Direct Day and Why Does It Matter to Travelers?

Book Direct Day is an annual celebration of booking directly with vacation rental providers instead of using third-party platforms. While large booking sites may seem convenient, they often come with added service fees, limited flexibility, and less direct communication if questions or issues arise.

When you book directly with Poole & Associates, you’re working with a trusted local company that knows Gulf Shores and the vacation rentals we manage. Book Direct Day 2026 highlights the advantages of going straight to the source—transparent pricing, reliable support, and a booking process designed around your needs.

Save More by Booking Direct

One of the biggest benefits of booking direct is saving money without sacrificing quality. Third-party booking platforms frequently add extra fees that increase the total cost of your stay without enhancing your experience.

By booking your Gulf Shores vacation rental directly with Poole & Associates, you’ll see exactly what you’re paying for upfront. On Book Direct Day 2026, those savings can be even more impactful, giving you the opportunity to put more of your budget toward enjoying your time at the beach rather than paying unnecessary booking fees.

A More Personalized Booking Experience

No two vacations are the same, and your booking experience shouldn’t feel generic. When you book directly with Poole & Associates, you gain access to a knowledgeable team that understands each rental and is happy to help you find the right fit for your stay.

Whether you’re traveling with family, friends, or as a couple, booking direct allows you to ask questions, get accurate information, and feel confident in your choice. That personal connection can make planning your Gulf Shores vacation easier and more enjoyable from the start.

Flexibility and Support You Can Rely On

Travel plans can change, and when they do, booking direct makes a difference. Third-party platforms often require navigating complex customer service systems that can delay solutions and add stress.

Booking directly with Poole & Associates means clear communication and responsive support before, during, and after your stay. From check-in details to assistance while you’re here, you’ll know exactly who to contact and can feel confident that your needs will be handled promptly and professionally.

Why Gulf Shores Is a Favorite Vacation Destination

Gulf Shores offers a classic beach vacation experience that combines natural beauty with a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. The wide shoreline, warm Gulf waters, and easygoing pace make it a destination travelers return to year after year.

Staying in a vacation rental allows you to experience Gulf Shores on your own schedule. Enjoy quiet mornings, shared meals, and evenings spent unwinding together without the limitations of traditional lodging. A vacation rental provides the space, comfort, and flexibility that turn a simple trip into a true escape.

Why Choose a Gulf Shores Vacation Rental

Vacation rentals offer advantages that hotels simply can’t match. With full kitchens, separate living areas, and room to spread out, rentals are ideal for families and groups looking to enjoy time together while still having privacy.

Booking your Gulf Shores vacation rental directly with Poole & Associates enhances that experience even further. You’ll benefit from local expertise, well-maintained properties, and a booking process focused on guest satisfaction rather than transactions.

Why Book with Poole & Associates?

At Poole & Associates, we’re dedicated to providing quality Gulf Shores vacation rentals and a booking experience that’s straightforward, transparent, and guest-focused. Our team takes pride in helping guests feel comfortable and cared for throughout their stay.

When you book directly with us, you’re supporting a local company that values long-term relationships with guests. That means better communication, attention to detail, and a commitment to making sure your vacation meets your expectations from arrival to departure.

March

Spring starts a little early in Gulf Shores, or at least the temperature will make it seem as if it has started, so we will begin our spring events early in the month, instead of just listing the ones that take place after the official first day of spring. March temperatures may reach the low 70s in the daytime, and although in most places spring is the rainy season, in Gulf Shores, the summer months are the ones with the most rain.

Pack light, bring a jacket because nights will get cool, and prepare to enjoy the events in Gulf Shores that March brings as listed below. But remember, although this guide is to Gulf Shores events, the towns of Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Fort Morgan Beach are tightly intertwined, so we will talk about events in all the towns, making note of which one the festival or event will take place in.

Discover the top spring events in Gulf Shores

Ballyhoo Festival, First Full Weekend in March, Lake Shelby at Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores

The most beautiful places on earth attract the most talented artists on earth, and the Ballyhoo Festival, a juried fine art show with over 100 artists competing, will prove to you how right we are. Offering live entertainment, the 2026 festival will include a cultural exchange focusing on the history of the Poarch Creek Indians, plus historical narration and a tribal dance performed by dancers in authentic Native costumes.

Every year has its own theme and perspective, so if you are visiting in 2027 or you have visited in the past, you may experience something totally different. In any case, the festival will also provide food, art demonstrations, musical competitions, and of course, the juried art show.

Orange Beach Festival of Art, Saturday and Sunday in Mid-March, Orange Beach Waterfront Park in Orange Beach

This fantastic spring festival celebrates all genres of art, including acting, music, culinary, and visual arts, and is veritable feast for all your senses. Offering more than 100 vendors, the culinary portion of the art festival is where you will find the best food in the state. Also celebrating the written word and providing a kids’ art alley, there is nothing more enjoyable than walking the aisles, exploring the beautiful works of art, sampling the delicious foods, and noticing that your children are also having a fine old time as they explore all that is offered to the different age groups.

Spring Break, Mid-March Through Mid-April

Spring Break is a very popular time in Gulf Shores, but whether you are here to join in the fun with the college students or are enjoying a family Spring Break with your kiddos, we can assure you that this will be the vacation you will never forget! For our younger travelers, you can expect that local hot spots like the Hangout (101 E Beach Boulevard in Gulf Shores) or Flora-Bama (29603 Perdido Beach Boulevard in Orange Beach) will offer all the parties.

For our guests with families, however, you can explore the events in Gulf Shores going on during your visit, spend the day at the beaches of Gulf Shores, and enjoy family pool parties, barbecues, and more at home in our Poole & Associates seasonal sanctuaries. There really is something for everyone, and even though it may be a little more crowded than normal, the happy vibe, smiling faces, and sunny days will make you glad you chose our coastal town for your family spring vacation!

Experience boating in Orange Beach, Alabama

The Wharf Boat & Yacht Show, End of March in Orange Beach

If you have ever wanted your own boat or simply have wished to see how the rich people live on yachts with every luxury amenity possible, the Wharf Boat & Yacht Show is where you need to be when spring officially begins. Offering three days of unbelievable luxury and freedom, there will be over $100 million in boats and marine products to peruse, nearly 1000 boats of varying types, and more than 120 exhibitors. The numbers spell it out quite clearly, this boat show should not be missed! Also offering food and live entertainment, the weekend kicks off with the traditional Wharf Dock Walk and doesn’t end until every last person has found the yacht of their dreams, whether they have the funds to buy one or not!

The Original German Sausage Festival, Last Saturday in March, Elberta Town Park in Elberta

We’re going to take you on a little bit of a road trip for this last festival in March, but don’t worry, it’s only about a 15 minute drive to Elberta, Alabama, and the sausages awaiting you at the Original German Sausage Festival will be worth the drive! Elberta, in addition to being a good neighbor to Gulf Shores, is known for its eclectic Lady in the Lake, a fiberglass sculpture of a very large lady sitting in the lake, so be sure and drive by Barber Marina after you have had your fill of sausage. This event is sponsored by the Elberta Fire Department as a fundraiser, so be sure to purchase and eat your fill, because you are doing a good deed supporting the fire department and the community activities of this small town.

April

The temperatures begin to rise even more in April, with highs generally staying in the mid-70s and nights staying cool and breezy. April may be our favorite month of the year, and as we mentioned earlier, although there will be rain, we still haven’t reached rainy season, which hits in the middle of the summer months.

Spring Break will keep its hold on the Gulf Shores area until about the middle of the month, but from mid-April through Memorial Day Weekend, the beaches will be quiet, the wait times at restaurants will be shorter, and there won’t be as much competition for our beachfront retreats, perhaps making April your favorite month as well!

A bucket of cooked crawfish

Mudbugs & Margaritas, First Weekend in April, Heritage Park in Foley

Located just 12 miles outside of Gulf Shores, the town of Foley is known for its railroad and medical museums and for being home to the spring Mudbugs & Margaritas event, a yummy festival that rivals the German Sausage Festival in Elberta. (Fortunately, they are held on different weekends, so there is no competition!) Mudbugs are another name for crawfish, and all food vendors will be offering their own crawfish dishes.

Because there will be multiple margarita lines, no crawfish will have to be eaten unaccompanied by the frosty beverage that makes every day a little brighter! You’ll also find craft beer vendors, wine vendors, and a super-sized selection of arts, crafts, décor, and other types of merchandise. Live music will be playing all day, and a huge kids’ area with petting zoo, bounce houses, and more will ensure that all participants will think the Mudbug & Margaritas Festival is the best festival of the year!

The L.O.L. Festival, Mid-April, Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores

We head back to our hometown of Gulf Shores for this next spring event, and contrary to what you may think, L.O.L. does not mean laugh out loud (although you may do lots of laughing out loud during your Gulf Shores vacation). For the purpose of this festival, LOL stands for love our locals, making it a celebration of everything local! Local food, local music, local vendors, and local small vendors pull out all the stops to make this event one that everyone in your family will want to attend, and when you feel the love expressed, you may even wish that you were a local, too!

Alabama Coastal Birding Festival, Late April, Various Locations

This part of Alabama is home to over 300 species of birds, and it is also an important stop on the “migration trail” for billions of birds either heading home or heading to warmer climates, depending on the season, making the Alabama Coastal Birding Festival one of the most popular ones for bird lovers from all over the country. Offering four days of field trips, special events, and keynote speakers, this festival focuses on a passion for the winged creatures as well as awakening those who don’t know how important it is to protect each and every one, no matter how much of a pest the woodpecker pecking holes in our garages may be!

May

May is when summer begins its approach, offering daylight temps that are summer warm without being too hot and days that haven’t reached the levels of humidity you will find closer to rainy season. As Memorial Day approaches, the beaches grow a little more crowded, but if you are here in the early days, while schools are still in session, this really can be a dream vacation!

A hot air balloon in the sky

Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival, April/May, 100 N OWA Boulevard in Foley

This festival hits at an awkward spot in the season, being held on April 30 and May 1st, 2026, but its colorful beauty and the opportunity to fly makes it a beloved one. Offering two days of balloon flights and tethered balloon rides, live entertainment, food, and arts and crafts displays, the balloons glow and bring joy to the coast.

Orange Beach Billfish Classic, Mid-May, The Wharf Marina in Orange Beach

The Orange Beach Billfish Classic is a fishing tournament of serious proportions, offering big money prizes and the opportunity to fish for a good cause, as the proceeds go towards organizations that advocate for recreational fishermen. Attracting competitive sport-fishing teams from all over, this tournament is the only one on the Gulf Coast that is owned and operated by tournament fishermen, and even if you don’t participate in the tournament itself, watching the weigh-ins each day is always a good time!

Memorial Day Weekend, Last Monday in May, Various Locations

Even though spring continues for almost another month according to the calendar, in Gulf Shores, Memorial Day serves as the kick-off to summer, and as the temperatures continue to rise, outdoor events start to occur less often. But as expected, there will be parties at the party spots, children and their parents will build sandcastles at water’s edge, and good times will be had by all.

Fort Morgan offers a Memorial Day Commemoration that includes historical reenactments, weapons demos, and tours of the Fort. Memorial Day in Gulf Shores isn’t just a celebration of a three-day weekend; it is a remembrance of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms and a celebrations of families.

Let’s Talk Accommodations

We will get into more of the details of our Poole & Associates romantic retreats a little further down the page, but as you are in the planning stages while reading this, it is vital that you understand the importance of choosing a property in the right location. And by right location, we don’t mean that you must choose Gulf Shores over Orange Beach or Fort Morgan Beach; we mean that a beachfront retreat is the only correct romantic choice!

We do offer many lovely properties that can be found near the beach, and they do offer all the luxuries, comforts, and modern conveniences that Poole & Associates is known for, but when it comes to a Gulf Shores couples getaway, only a beachfront escape will do. Rise early to watch the world come awake and then crawl back into your still warm and oh so inviting bed after. Plan a “date” to meet on the balcony every day at sunset, raising a toast to the beauty of another Alabama sunset and seeing the fire in the sky reflected in blue waters below. These are the moments that cost nothing and give everything, becoming your most cherished memories of the most romantic Gulf Shores vacation.

Gifts That Keep Giving

Yes, a Gulf Shores couples getaway is the main gift you will be giving, but our Southern mamas taught us that you never show up at the table without a little something for the hostess—or in this case, you can’t celebrate the holiday fully without something to unwrap! The shops we list below are where you will find traditional gifts your Valentine will be thrilled to have, but don’t be afraid to go rogue and purchase something you know she will adore!

A Box of Chocolates from the Chocolate Corner & Ice Cream, 200 W Fort Morgan Road in Gulf Shores

Giving sweets to your sweet is one of the oldest traditions, and it has become a tradition because it works. Nothing melts her heart like a heart-shaped box of delicious chocolates, and the Chocolate Corner & Ice Cream, voted Alabama’s #1 Chocolate Shop, is a shop we highly suggest. Their handmade treats never fail to satisfy, and on Valentine’s Day, it feels like they go the extra mile, creating even more delicious treats that are innovative and yummy. If she is quiet at first after receiving the gift, don’t fear; her mother probably taught her it wasn’t polite to talk with her mouth full, and hers will certainly be filled with the first taste of the chocolate treats!

Flowers from Coastal Flowers & Design, 2200 E 2nd Street in Gulf Shores

A beautiful bouquet of flowers has always been a go-to for suitors trying to win, or keep, their true love’s hearts, but we do understand on vacation it can be a bit tricky, especially if you are planning on leaving soon after to return home. Flowers don’t travel well, but if Valentine’s Day falls at the beginning of your week in paradise, Coastal Flowers & Design offers unique bouquets that will show your Valentine just how special she is!

She Said Yes to the Ring from Frank & Co, The Wharf in Orange Beach

Did you know that Valentine’s Day is the number one day in the world for marriage proposals? And did you further know that with the right ring (from Frank & Co) and the perfect location (the beach at sunset), no is almost never the response received? Your Valentine’s Day proposal will make your girl’s eyes shine when she sees a Frank & Co ring in the box you hold out to her, even if she doesn’t know who Frank & Co is. Offering luxurious custom designs that will enable the proposer to find a ring that will fit the proposee’s style to perfection, we invite you to browse their online selection ahead of time to get an idea of what you want to buy, knowing you won’t be able to sneak away for very long during your visit without her getting suspicious!

Romantic Adventures in Gulf Shores

It can be quite chilly in Gulf Shores in February, so there won’t be much splashing in the surf during this trip, but it will still be warm enough to engage in all the romantic adventures we have listed below.

Steal a Kiss at the Top of the Ferris Wheel at the Wharf in Orange Beach

There aren’t many places that offer Ferris wheel rides year-round, but at the Wharf its Ferris wheel will be open, weather permitting. And since it very rarely storms in February, we can safely assume that on Valentine’s Day, you and your human will be enjoying panoramic views as you snuggle together, hopefully as the sun sets. Honestly there is no better place to view the sunset than from the top of the Ferris wheel, and if you were planning a proposal, it could be the most romantic spot to do so! And while you are at the Wharf, after the ride you can do some shopping, enjoy a good meal, and quite possibly attend a live musical event if you purchased tickets in advance.

A Couple’s Massage at Serenity at the Beach, 27267 Perdido Beach Boulevard B203 in Orange Beach

Although this Gulf Shores romantic getaway guide seems to be geared towards giving one half of the couple a beautiful and romantic retreat, we don’t want you to forget that there are two people in this relationship, and you deserve some spoiling as well. A couple’s massage from Serenity at the Beach is our favorite way of staying close to our own valentines, and if she wants to add on a body care treatment, who is keeping count? A spa day can be just what the doctor ordered, and when you both walk out after your massage and/or body and skin care treatments, you will feel and look like new people!

Paddling Together in Gulf Shores

Yes, it is winter, and yes it will be too cold to swim, but the temperatures are still mild with the mercury rising into the 60s, so why not plan a kayaking adventure during your stay? Gulf Shores Kayak Rentals, 824 Gulf Shores Parkway C-4, offers kayak rentals as well as providing a launch spot that allows you to start paddling without having to get wet. (But you still may want to wear something waterproof, just in case!) Sometimes the quieter adventures are the ones that linger in your heart, and we think that kayaking along a 10-mile-long lagoon will be the one adventure that has the biggest impact.

A server holding dinner plates.

A Taste Tour of Gulf Shores with Your Valentine

Our fully equipped kitchens will allow you to stay home and create a meal together, but with so many wonderful restaurants in the area and the realization that Valentine’s Day should be celebrated by both halves of the couple, dining out will be your most delicious option. We’ve done the research, and we can assure you that the restaurants listed here will enhance your holiday celebration.

Cobalt the Restaurant, 28099 Perdido Beach Boulevard in Orange Beach

Although there are pricier dining options in the Gulf Shores area, isn’t it nice to know that after all the money you have spent on making this holiday journey happen, you don’t have to break the bank for a romantic meal that offers waterfront views? Cobalt the Restaurant actually sits under the Alabama Point Bridge, a unique location that ensures all views will be water ones, and their reasonably priced menu offers unreasonably delicious meals, so it won’t feel like you are skimping! This seafood-centric restaurant does offer land lubbers’ delights as well, and because it is a holiday meant for romance, be sure to save room for their triple layer chocolate cake, drizzled with your choice of Chambord, Kaluha, Bailey’s, or Frangelico for a couple of bucks more!

Jesse’s on the Bay, 1631 Crosswinds Court in Gulf Shores

You may notice a theme of waterfront restaurants happening here, but you shouldn’t be surprised. There is something about the water that just makes life better, and a sunset view at Jesse’s on the Bay will add romance to your delicious dinner. Jesse’s is a little more expensive than Cobalt, but the views and its surf-and-turf menu will make this a meal to remember. They don’t offer a dessert menu, but you won’t have to skip the something sweet to end your meal if you order a chocolate martini from their full bar.

With your rental as your home base, you can enjoy all that Fort Morgan has to offer while feeling relaxed and at ease.

Step into the Past at Fort Morgan State Historic Site

One of the highlights of visiting this area is exploring the Fort Morgan State Historic Site, a beautifully preserved 19th century fort that once played a major role in the Battle of Mobile Bay during the Civil War. History lovers will enjoy wandering through the brick tunnels, ramparts, and museum exhibits that bring the fort’s story to life. Even if you’re not a history buff, the site’s sweeping views of the Gulf and Mobile Bay are worth the visit. It’s a peaceful and fascinating reminder of the region’s past and a great way to spend a morning or afternoon.

Relax in Natural Beauty at Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge

For those who love nature, a trip to the nearby Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge offers a chance to immerse yourself in the untouched beauty of the Alabama coast. This protected area is home to miles of scenic trails, sand dunes, and maritime forests, as well as a variety of native wildlife, including migratory birds and sea turtles. It’s the perfect place to go for a hike, enjoy a picnic, or simply spend a quiet day surrounded by nature. The refuge’s unspoiled beaches provide a peaceful alternative to the busier stretches of sand elsewhere along the coast, making it an ideal destination for anyone seeking rest and reflection.

Take a Ferry to Discover More Adventures

Another favorite local experience is taking the Mobile Bay Ferry, which connects Fort Morgan to Dauphin Island. The ferry ride itself is scenic and relaxing, offering beautiful views of the bay and the chance to spot dolphins playing in the wake. Once you arrive on Dauphin Island, you can explore charming coastal attractions like the Alabama Aquarium, which showcases the marine life and ecosystems of the Gulf of Mexico. It’s a great day trip for families or anyone interested in learning more about the natural world while enjoying the laid-back island atmosphere.

Orange Beach is known for its stunning shoreline, gentle Gulf waters, and serene coastal vibe. Whether you enjoy morning walks along the sand, catching the sunrise over the water, or simply relaxing on a balcony with a cup of coffee, Orange Beach provides a setting that feels calm, festive, and rejuvenating.

The natural beauty of the area is one of its biggest draws. The sparkling water, soft sand, and colorful skies create a picturesque backdrop for holiday photos, evening strolls, or quiet reflection. A vacation rental allows you to set your own schedule and enjoy all the comforts of home while on vacation. Everyone in your party can have their own space while still coming together for shared experiences.

Once you arrive, your rental becomes a home away from home. You can start each day at your own pace, enjoy quiet evenings indoors, and savor the convenience of a property designed for comfort and relaxation. The flexibility of a vacation rental ensures that your holiday stays enjoyable and stress-free from start to finish.

Christmas Local Activities and Events

While much of your time may be spent relaxing in your vacation rental, Orange Beach also offers festive local events that can add to your holiday experience. You might choose to visit the Annual Christmas Parade for a dose of seasonal cheer, enjoy the local Holiday Boat Parade for a sparkling evening on the water, or explore Winterfest celebrations that feature music, lights, and family-friendly activities. These events are perfect for creating holiday memories while still maintaining the relaxed pace that makes a beach getaway special.

Celebrate Traditions Your Way

One of the benefits of staying in a vacation rental is the freedom to celebrate the holidays exactly how you like. You can continue your favorite traditions—cooking a Christmas dinner, exchanging gifts, or watching classic movies—or start new ones inspired by your coastal surroundings. Perhaps you’ll enjoy a morning walk on the beach after opening presents, sip hot cocoa while watching the sunset, or host a small holiday gathering in your rental’s spacious living area. The possibilities are endless, and you can tailor the experience to suit your family, friends, or romantic holiday plans.

If you have never visited before, it could be considered impossible to decide when is the best time to visit our part of Alabama, but you have Poole & Associates on your side, and we can make the decision easier. Because we care and want your Gulf Shores vacation to be the one you compare all others against, we have created this guide to when to visit the Gulf Shores area, offering a season by season description of everything that makes our hometown one of the most popular vacation destinations in the nation.

Winter Wanderings

As the new year begins and the days stretch out before you in an array of promise and the hope for fun, you may decide that you are through with the snow, the cold, the ice, and are ready for some warmth, some sunshine, and although it will be too cold to swim in the Gulf waters, some beach time in the Gulf Shores area. This time of year may be chilly here in Alabama, but we are thinking that for our friends from the north, highs in the 60s (and 70s if you are visiting during the still winter part of March!) and more days of sunshine than not is a far better winter experience than what you get back home.

Pack to dress in layers for your vacation to Gulf Shores, and because nighttime temps will drop into the 50s and 40s, be sure to bring at least one jacket, especially if you are planning any moonlit walks the beach. And although most of December is considered fall, if you are here for Christmas, you may not get a white Christmas, but you can definitely expect a white SAND holiday that you will never forget.

Gulf Shores, AL coastline

Winter Events and Festivals

The winter months are relatively quiet and although there aren’t a lot of festivals going on, you can expect lower prices, shorter lines, and more availability for our Poole & Associates seasonal sanctuaries. The Fort Morgan Oyster Festival is the much-anticipated exception to the rule, taking place February 28th and March 1st and offering a two-day-long celebration of the freshest, sweetest seafood you will ever taste, and that means all types of seafood, not just oysters. Also offering live entertainment, arts and craft shows, and kids’ activities, this is a festival you will regret not attending if you are in town while it is going on.

Exploring the Gulf Shores Area in the Winter Months

With the exception of swimming, every activity is a year-round activity, and if you choose to hang out on the beach on a particularly warm and sunny day in February during your vacation to Gulf Shores, even better. The Gulf is our very own paradise, and if you spend your day relaxing with a cooler full of drinks and the sun warming your face as the roar of the surf provides a harmonic accompaniment to your activities, this will be the day you remember best. Other fun activities for the winter months may include a trip to the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo in Gulf Shores, shopping at the Wharf in Orange Beach, or exploring the historic Fort Morgan in Fort Morgan.

Spring to Excitement

Spring is when the tourist activities start to increase, especially if you are here during Spring Break, and as the temperatures rise (mid-70s to high 80s), the waters that frame our coastal town become more inviting. There will be rain, although not as much as you might experience in the summer months, and our beaches will be more crowded on some days, less on others, and depending on when you arrive, this could be the best time of year to make your journey to Alabama. Your packing list should include sunscreen, sunglasses, swimsuits, and summer weight clothing and you may want to include one weather proof light jacket. Sandals and flip flops are always the shoe of the moment, unless you are planning on hiking—if so, you might want to pack some good hiking shoes.

Spring Events and Festivals

Car shows are popular at this time of the year, with the Bama Coast Cruisin’ Festival roaring into the Wharf April 23 through April 25, and although the dates are technically winter ones, the Orange Beach Festival of Art takes place March 14th and 15th at the Orange Beach Waterfront Park, offering a fantastic selection of masterpieces that will make wonderful souvenirs of your visit. The Hangout Music Festival is made even more popular because it is held on the pristine white sand beaches we are so proud of; this event will occur May 15 through 17 in 2026.

What to Do in the Spring in Gulf Shores and the Surrounding Towns

There’s a vibrancy to spring that makes it one of our favorite times of year, and as such, there is so much to do here, we simply can’t list it all! We don’t think we need to encourage you to go to the beach, however, because warmer temperatures and warmer turquoise waters are all the enticement most travelers need, but the beautiful weather in the spring may make it the perfect time to explore our parks. Gulf Shores State Park, for example, offers hiking trails, kayaking areas, playgrounds, and even more beaches to savor. Sunset cruises, especially ones that include a dolphin tour are guaranteed to be a hit for the entire family, and Jurassic Golf, a dinosaur themed miniature golf course, offers an idyllic family experience.

Summer Days, Summer Nights

As you might expect, summer is the most popular time of the year for visitors, especially as many travelers have to wait for their kids to be out of school to travel. This is the time of year when beaches will be more crowded, restaurants will have longer wait times, and the heat and humidity might convince you that staying in at least one day and hanging out at the pool in your Poole & Associates summer retreat sounds like an excellent idea!

The rains will fall, but on most days, the clouds roll in around midafternoon, the skies open up for a bit, and then, the clouds roll out again. Rainy days aren’t that much of an inconvenience or obstacle to fun in the Gulf Shores area, and honestly, neither are the crowds or lines. Life just moves at a slower pace when the temperatures rise up into the 90s, and the laidback vibe will make you feel you never want to leave. Pack light, don’t forget the sunscreen, and plan on an idyllic retreat that all other vacations will pale in comparison to!

A view of a BBQ grill

Summer Events and Festivals

The warmer weather of summer keeps festivals to a minimum, but of course, on 4th of July, we go all out. There will be barbecues, live music, and the only appropriate ending to this day of celebration, a fireworks show over the Gulf with the colorful explosions reflected in the calm waters below. For many of our guests, they may find that they can see the fireworks from their balconies perched over turquoise waters, while others prefer to rent a boat and head out into the water watching the show from the best seats in town.

What to Do in the Summer on the Gulf Coast

Just like when you were a child and summer days stretched out before you with nothing planned while remaining full of possibility, that’s how your summer vacation in Gulf Shores will play out. Maybe you will spend days shopping at the Wharf, dipping in and out of air-conditioned stores, your arms laden with treasures, or maybe you will never leave the beach except to eat and sleep.

Daredevils may want to go shark fishing, the peak season happens to fall in the middle of summer, or those seeking peace, quiet, and a one-on-one battle with the denizens of the sea, may prefer dropping their lines in the quiet waters of Lake Shelby. Summer is when the child in you comes out to play and your Gulf Shores getaway will thrill that inner babe.

Welcoming Fall

Fall, especially early in the season, may be our favorite time of year in Gulf Shores. The humidity diminishes and the heat lessens its hold on us. Many travelers find themselves reentering reality as their children go back to school, and the less crowded beaches will make you feel as if you belong here, as if the beach is your own private sanctuary. There will be less competition for the Poole & Associates vacation rental of your dreams, and that slow pace of summer eases into a quiet and tranquil vibe.

Temperatures now lie somewhere between the high 60s and barely 80, depending on what part of fall your visit occurs, and there are fewer rainy days. Your suitcase should still contain sunscreen, sunglasses, swimsuits, and summer clothing and your relaxation levels will be at their peak, that’s a promise.

A fried shrimp platter

Fall Events and Festivals

The festivals return in the fall, including another favorite foodie event, the National Shrimp Festival, occurring on October 8 through October 11 in 2026. Offering four days of shrimp, music, arts, vendors, shrimp, beverages, fun, seafood—well, we think you get the point that there will be a LOT of shrimp and other types of seafood being celebrated at this tasty event!

As the fall holidays start to roll in, visitors can explore the Magnolia Corn Maze in nearby Summerdale or experience all manner of festive Christmas events, including holiday markets, visits with Santa (he drops in to the holidays by parachuting onto our beaches at the beginning of December), and of course, all the lights that just make the season more beautiful. The Wharf is always decorated especially well, and Santa has a temporary office there for children who may be worried he can’t find them when they are traveling over the holiday.

The Sky’s the Limit

The fall in Gulf Shores is such an idyllic time. There is nothing that you won’t be able to do! Hang out at the beach, take a class at the Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach, or watch the Blue Angels practice from your rented boat on a warm and wonderful autumn day. Nighttime kayak tours in lighted kayaks are popular, as are picnics in any parks and go kart rides at The Track Family Fun Park. You can also stay in for a day, exploring all the luxury amenities you can find in our Poole & Associates seasonal sanctuaries. The sky’s the limit when it comes to fun and adventure during a fall visit to the Gulf Shores area, and our town is sure to be your favorite place to visit!

New Year’s Eve Celebrations by the Beach

Though technically closing out December, New Year’s Eve celebrations are an important part of the holiday season in Gulf Shores. Local restaurants and venues host festive dinners and parties, while fireworks over the Gulf mark the arrival of the new year. Visitors love ending their holiday vacation with this sparkling finale.

Experience Mild Weather

Christmas in Gulf Shores brings mild, comfortable weather that makes celebrating by the beach extra special. Instead of freezing temperatures and snow, you can expect daytime highs in the 60s to low 70s, with cooler evenings perfect for sweaters and light jackets.

The Gulf waters add a refreshing breeze, and the skies are often sunny, creating a cheerful backdrop for holiday events and outdoor fun. Cooking in Your Rental

Of course, one of the biggest perks of staying in a vacation rental is the ability to prepare your own holiday meal. With Poole & Associates, you’ll have access to fully equipped kitchens that make it easy to cook Thanksgiving dinner at home. Whether you want to roast a turkey, prepare family recipes, or simply heat up your favorite sides, your rental provides the flexibility to celebrate the holiday however you’d like.

Cooking together can even become part of the fun—gathering in the kitchen, dividing up recipes, and creating memories as you prepare the meal. When it’s time to eat, you can enjoy dinner around a private dining table or even bring the holiday outdoors to a deck or patio with a view. Plus, grocery stores are conveniently located near our rentals, making it simple to stock up on everything you need for your feast.
