March
Spring starts a little early in Gulf Shores, or at least the temperature will make it seem as if it has started, so we will begin our spring events early in the month, instead of just listing the ones that take place after the official first day of spring. March temperatures may reach the low 70s in the daytime, and although in most places spring is the rainy season, in Gulf Shores, the summer months are the ones with the most rain.
Pack light, bring a jacket because nights will get cool, and prepare to enjoy the events in Gulf Shores that March brings as listed below. But remember, although this guide is to Gulf Shores events, the towns of Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Fort Morgan Beach are tightly intertwined, so we will talk about events in all the towns, making note of which one the festival or event will take place in.

Ballyhoo Festival, First Full Weekend in March, Lake Shelby at Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores
The most beautiful places on earth attract the most talented artists on earth, and the Ballyhoo Festival, a juried fine art show with over 100 artists competing, will prove to you how right we are. Offering live entertainment, the 2026 festival will include a cultural exchange focusing on the history of the Poarch Creek Indians, plus historical narration and a tribal dance performed by dancers in authentic Native costumes.
Every year has its own theme and perspective, so if you are visiting in 2027 or you have visited in the past, you may experience something totally different. In any case, the festival will also provide food, art demonstrations, musical competitions, and of course, the juried art show.
Orange Beach Festival of Art, Saturday and Sunday in Mid-March, Orange Beach Waterfront Park in Orange Beach
This fantastic spring festival celebrates all genres of art, including acting, music, culinary, and visual arts, and is veritable feast for all your senses. Offering more than 100 vendors, the culinary portion of the art festival is where you will find the best food in the state. Also celebrating the written word and providing a kids’ art alley, there is nothing more enjoyable than walking the aisles, exploring the beautiful works of art, sampling the delicious foods, and noticing that your children are also having a fine old time as they explore all that is offered to the different age groups.
Spring Break, Mid-March Through Mid-April
Spring Break is a very popular time in Gulf Shores, but whether you are here to join in the fun with the college students or are enjoying a family Spring Break with your kiddos, we can assure you that this will be the vacation you will never forget! For our younger travelers, you can expect that local hot spots like the Hangout (101 E Beach Boulevard in Gulf Shores) or Flora-Bama (29603 Perdido Beach Boulevard in Orange Beach) will offer all the parties.
For our guests with families, however, you can explore the events in Gulf Shores going on during your visit, spend the day at the beaches of Gulf Shores, and enjoy family pool parties, barbecues, and more at home in our Poole & Associates seasonal sanctuaries. There really is something for everyone, and even though it may be a little more crowded than normal, the happy vibe, smiling faces, and sunny days will make you glad you chose our coastal town for your family spring vacation!

The Wharf Boat & Yacht Show, End of March in Orange Beach
If you have ever wanted your own boat or simply have wished to see how the rich people live on yachts with every luxury amenity possible, the Wharf Boat & Yacht Show is where you need to be when spring officially begins. Offering three days of unbelievable luxury and freedom, there will be over $100 million in boats and marine products to peruse, nearly 1000 boats of varying types, and more than 120 exhibitors. The numbers spell it out quite clearly, this boat show should not be missed! Also offering food and live entertainment, the weekend kicks off with the traditional Wharf Dock Walk and doesn’t end until every last person has found the yacht of their dreams, whether they have the funds to buy one or not!
The Original German Sausage Festival, Last Saturday in March, Elberta Town Park in Elberta
We’re going to take you on a little bit of a road trip for this last festival in March, but don’t worry, it’s only about a 15 minute drive to Elberta, Alabama, and the sausages awaiting you at the Original German Sausage Festival will be worth the drive! Elberta, in addition to being a good neighbor to Gulf Shores, is known for its eclectic Lady in the Lake, a fiberglass sculpture of a very large lady sitting in the lake, so be sure and drive by Barber Marina after you have had your fill of sausage. This event is sponsored by the Elberta Fire Department as a fundraiser, so be sure to purchase and eat your fill, because you are doing a good deed supporting the fire department and the community activities of this small town.
April
The temperatures begin to rise even more in April, with highs generally staying in the mid-70s and nights staying cool and breezy. April may be our favorite month of the year, and as we mentioned earlier, although there will be rain, we still haven’t reached rainy season, which hits in the middle of the summer months.
Spring Break will keep its hold on the Gulf Shores area until about the middle of the month, but from mid-April through Memorial Day Weekend, the beaches will be quiet, the wait times at restaurants will be shorter, and there won’t be as much competition for our beachfront retreats, perhaps making April your favorite month as well!

Mudbugs & Margaritas, First Weekend in April, Heritage Park in Foley
Located just 12 miles outside of Gulf Shores, the town of Foley is known for its railroad and medical museums and for being home to the spring Mudbugs & Margaritas event, a yummy festival that rivals the German Sausage Festival in Elberta. (Fortunately, they are held on different weekends, so there is no competition!) Mudbugs are another name for crawfish, and all food vendors will be offering their own crawfish dishes.
Because there will be multiple margarita lines, no crawfish will have to be eaten unaccompanied by the frosty beverage that makes every day a little brighter! You’ll also find craft beer vendors, wine vendors, and a super-sized selection of arts, crafts, décor, and other types of merchandise. Live music will be playing all day, and a huge kids’ area with petting zoo, bounce houses, and more will ensure that all participants will think the Mudbug & Margaritas Festival is the best festival of the year!
The L.O.L. Festival, Mid-April, Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores
We head back to our hometown of Gulf Shores for this next spring event, and contrary to what you may think, L.O.L. does not mean laugh out loud (although you may do lots of laughing out loud during your Gulf Shores vacation). For the purpose of this festival, LOL stands for love our locals, making it a celebration of everything local! Local food, local music, local vendors, and local small vendors pull out all the stops to make this event one that everyone in your family will want to attend, and when you feel the love expressed, you may even wish that you were a local, too!
Alabama Coastal Birding Festival, Late April, Various Locations
This part of Alabama is home to over 300 species of birds, and it is also an important stop on the “migration trail” for billions of birds either heading home or heading to warmer climates, depending on the season, making the Alabama Coastal Birding Festival one of the most popular ones for bird lovers from all over the country. Offering four days of field trips, special events, and keynote speakers, this festival focuses on a passion for the winged creatures as well as awakening those who don’t know how important it is to protect each and every one, no matter how much of a pest the woodpecker pecking holes in our garages may be!
May
May is when summer begins its approach, offering daylight temps that are summer warm without being too hot and days that haven’t reached the levels of humidity you will find closer to rainy season. As Memorial Day approaches, the beaches grow a little more crowded, but if you are here in the early days, while schools are still in session, this really can be a dream vacation!

Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival, April/May, 100 N OWA Boulevard in Foley
This festival hits at an awkward spot in the season, being held on April 30 and May 1st, 2026, but its colorful beauty and the opportunity to fly makes it a beloved one. Offering two days of balloon flights and tethered balloon rides, live entertainment, food, and arts and crafts displays, the balloons glow and bring joy to the coast.
Orange Beach Billfish Classic, Mid-May, The Wharf Marina in Orange Beach
The Orange Beach Billfish Classic is a fishing tournament of serious proportions, offering big money prizes and the opportunity to fish for a good cause, as the proceeds go towards organizations that advocate for recreational fishermen. Attracting competitive sport-fishing teams from all over, this tournament is the only one on the Gulf Coast that is owned and operated by tournament fishermen, and even if you don’t participate in the tournament itself, watching the weigh-ins each day is always a good time!
Memorial Day Weekend, Last Monday in May, Various Locations
Even though spring continues for almost another month according to the calendar, in Gulf Shores, Memorial Day serves as the kick-off to summer, and as the temperatures continue to rise, outdoor events start to occur less often. But as expected, there will be parties at the party spots, children and their parents will build sandcastles at water’s edge, and good times will be had by all.
Fort Morgan offers a Memorial Day Commemoration that includes historical reenactments, weapons demos, and tours of the Fort. Memorial Day in Gulf Shores isn’t just a celebration of a three-day weekend; it is a remembrance of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms and a celebrations of families.

Let’s Talk Accommodations
We will get into more of the details of our Poole & Associates romantic retreats a little further down the page, but as you are in the planning stages while reading this, it is vital that you understand the importance of choosing a property in the right location. And by right location, we don’t mean that you must choose Gulf Shores over Orange Beach or Fort Morgan Beach; we mean that a beachfront retreat is the only correct romantic choice!
We do offer many lovely properties that can be found near the beach, and they do offer all the luxuries, comforts, and modern conveniences that Poole & Associates is known for, but when it comes to a Gulf Shores couples getaway, only a beachfront escape will do. Rise early to watch the world come awake and then crawl back into your still warm and oh so inviting bed after. Plan a “date” to meet on the balcony every day at sunset, raising a toast to the beauty of another Alabama sunset and seeing the fire in the sky reflected in blue waters below. These are the moments that cost nothing and give everything, becoming your most cherished memories of the most romantic Gulf Shores vacation.

Gifts That Keep Giving
Yes, a Gulf Shores couples getaway is the main gift you will be giving, but our Southern mamas taught us that you never show up at the table without a little something for the hostess—or in this case, you can’t celebrate the holiday fully without something to unwrap! The shops we list below are where you will find traditional gifts your Valentine will be thrilled to have, but don’t be afraid to go rogue and purchase something you know she will adore!
A Box of Chocolates from the Chocolate Corner & Ice Cream, 200 W Fort Morgan Road in Gulf Shores
Giving sweets to your sweet is one of the oldest traditions, and it has become a tradition because it works. Nothing melts her heart like a heart-shaped box of delicious chocolates, and the Chocolate Corner & Ice Cream, voted Alabama’s #1 Chocolate Shop, is a shop we highly suggest. Their handmade treats never fail to satisfy, and on Valentine’s Day, it feels like they go the extra mile, creating even more delicious treats that are innovative and yummy. If she is quiet at first after receiving the gift, don’t fear; her mother probably taught her it wasn’t polite to talk with her mouth full, and hers will certainly be filled with the first taste of the chocolate treats!
Flowers from Coastal Flowers & Design, 2200 E 2nd Street in Gulf Shores
A beautiful bouquet of flowers has always been a go-to for suitors trying to win, or keep, their true love’s hearts, but we do understand on vacation it can be a bit tricky, especially if you are planning on leaving soon after to return home. Flowers don’t travel well, but if Valentine’s Day falls at the beginning of your week in paradise, Coastal Flowers & Design offers unique bouquets that will show your Valentine just how special she is!
She Said Yes to the Ring from Frank & Co, The Wharf in Orange Beach
Did you know that Valentine’s Day is the number one day in the world for marriage proposals? And did you further know that with the right ring (from Frank & Co) and the perfect location (the beach at sunset), no is almost never the response received? Your Valentine’s Day proposal will make your girl’s eyes shine when she sees a Frank & Co ring in the box you hold out to her, even if she doesn’t know who Frank & Co is. Offering luxurious custom designs that will enable the proposer to find a ring that will fit the proposee’s style to perfection, we invite you to browse their online selection ahead of time to get an idea of what you want to buy, knowing you won’t be able to sneak away for very long during your visit without her getting suspicious!
Romantic Adventures in Gulf Shores
It can be quite chilly in Gulf Shores in February, so there won’t be much splashing in the surf during this trip, but it will still be warm enough to engage in all the romantic adventures we have listed below.
Steal a Kiss at the Top of the Ferris Wheel at the Wharf in Orange Beach
There aren’t many places that offer Ferris wheel rides year-round, but at the Wharf its Ferris wheel will be open, weather permitting. And since it very rarely storms in February, we can safely assume that on Valentine’s Day, you and your human will be enjoying panoramic views as you snuggle together, hopefully as the sun sets. Honestly there is no better place to view the sunset than from the top of the Ferris wheel, and if you were planning a proposal, it could be the most romantic spot to do so! And while you are at the Wharf, after the ride you can do some shopping, enjoy a good meal, and quite possibly attend a live musical event if you purchased tickets in advance.
A Couple’s Massage at Serenity at the Beach, 27267 Perdido Beach Boulevard B203 in Orange Beach
Although this Gulf Shores romantic getaway guide seems to be geared towards giving one half of the couple a beautiful and romantic retreat, we don’t want you to forget that there are two people in this relationship, and you deserve some spoiling as well. A couple’s massage from Serenity at the Beach is our favorite way of staying close to our own valentines, and if she wants to add on a body care treatment, who is keeping count? A spa day can be just what the doctor ordered, and when you both walk out after your massage and/or body and skin care treatments, you will feel and look like new people!
Paddling Together in Gulf Shores
Yes, it is winter, and yes it will be too cold to swim, but the temperatures are still mild with the mercury rising into the 60s, so why not plan a kayaking adventure during your stay? Gulf Shores Kayak Rentals, 824 Gulf Shores Parkway C-4, offers kayak rentals as well as providing a launch spot that allows you to start paddling without having to get wet. (But you still may want to wear something waterproof, just in case!) Sometimes the quieter adventures are the ones that linger in your heart, and we think that kayaking along a 10-mile-long lagoon will be the one adventure that has the biggest impact.

A Taste Tour of Gulf Shores with Your Valentine
Our fully equipped kitchens will allow you to stay home and create a meal together, but with so many wonderful restaurants in the area and the realization that Valentine’s Day should be celebrated by both halves of the couple, dining out will be your most delicious option. We’ve done the research, and we can assure you that the restaurants listed here will enhance your holiday celebration.
Cobalt the Restaurant, 28099 Perdido Beach Boulevard in Orange Beach
Although there are pricier dining options in the Gulf Shores area, isn’t it nice to know that after all the money you have spent on making this holiday journey happen, you don’t have to break the bank for a romantic meal that offers waterfront views? Cobalt the Restaurant actually sits under the Alabama Point Bridge, a unique location that ensures all views will be water ones, and their reasonably priced menu offers unreasonably delicious meals, so it won’t feel like you are skimping! This seafood-centric restaurant does offer land lubbers’ delights as well, and because it is a holiday meant for romance, be sure to save room for their triple layer chocolate cake, drizzled with your choice of Chambord, Kaluha, Bailey’s, or Frangelico for a couple of bucks more!
Jesse’s on the Bay, 1631 Crosswinds Court in Gulf Shores
You may notice a theme of waterfront restaurants happening here, but you shouldn’t be surprised. There is something about the water that just makes life better, and a sunset view at Jesse’s on the Bay will add romance to your delicious dinner. Jesse’s is a little more expensive than Cobalt, but the views and its surf-and-turf menu will make this a meal to remember. They don’t offer a dessert menu, but you won’t have to skip the something sweet to end your meal if you order a chocolate martini from their full bar.
Louisiana Lagniappe, 27267 Perdido Beach Boulevard #201 in Orange Beach
A taste of the South, Creole style can be enjoyed at Louisiana Lagniappe, offering a very inexpensive meal special (two can dine with a bottle of wine for $59), making it a regular on our rotation of romantic restaurants. Also offering waterfront views, this quiet spot offers a luxurious ending to the most romantic day of the year, and we can assure you that there isn’t a bad meal to be had in this popular Orange Beach spot. Reservations are recommended for this and every restaurant we have talked about today, especially as you are expecting to dine on one of the busiest nights of the year.

Romantic Retreats You Will Never Want to Leave
After you have enjoyed your last sip of the chocolate martini and one last stroll on white sand beaches as the moon casts its ethereal glow over the sea, it will be time for you to come home to the spaces where romance begins. Our Poole & Associates Gulf Shores holiday rentals are truly the love nests you have been seeking, offering charm, style, and luxury amenities that will make your Valentine’s Day shine brighter.
A last-minute soak in community or private hot tubs is one of our favorite ways to end any day, and because we believe in the power of choices, some of our romantic retreats will also offer deep soaking tubs large enough for two to enjoy the experience. Start your day out with breakfast in bed and end it with quiet conversation on a balcony overlooking the sea and feel the magic that is a Gulf Shores vacation brings the two of you even closer!

Winter Wanderings
As the new year begins and the days stretch out before you in an array of promise and the hope for fun, you may decide that you are through with the snow, the cold, the ice, and are ready for some warmth, some sunshine, and although it will be too cold to swim in the Gulf waters, some beach time in the Gulf Shores area. This time of year may be chilly here in Alabama, but we are thinking that for our friends from the north, highs in the 60s (and 70s if you are visiting during the still winter part of March!) and more days of sunshine than not is a far better winter experience than what you get back home.
Pack to dress in layers for your vacation to Gulf Shores, and because nighttime temps will drop into the 50s and 40s, be sure to bring at least one jacket, especially if you are planning any moonlit walks the beach. And although most of December is considered fall, if you are here for Christmas, you may not get a white Christmas, but you can definitely expect a white SAND holiday that you will never forget.

Winter Events and Festivals
The winter months are relatively quiet and although there aren’t a lot of festivals going on, you can expect lower prices, shorter lines, and more availability for our Poole & Associates seasonal sanctuaries. The Fort Morgan Oyster Festival is the much-anticipated exception to the rule, taking place February 28th and March 1st and offering a two-day-long celebration of the freshest, sweetest seafood you will ever taste, and that means all types of seafood, not just oysters. Also offering live entertainment, arts and craft shows, and kids’ activities, this is a festival you will regret not attending if you are in town while it is going on.
Exploring the Gulf Shores Area in the Winter Months
With the exception of swimming, every activity is a year-round activity, and if you choose to hang out on the beach on a particularly warm and sunny day in February during your vacation to Gulf Shores, even better. The Gulf is our very own paradise, and if you spend your day relaxing with a cooler full of drinks and the sun warming your face as the roar of the surf provides a harmonic accompaniment to your activities, this will be the day you remember best. Other fun activities for the winter months may include a trip to the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo in Gulf Shores, shopping at the Wharf in Orange Beach, or exploring the historic Fort Morgan in Fort Morgan.
Spring to Excitement
Spring is when the tourist activities start to increase, especially if you are here during Spring Break, and as the temperatures rise (mid-70s to high 80s), the waters that frame our coastal town become more inviting. There will be rain, although not as much as you might experience in the summer months, and our beaches will be more crowded on some days, less on others, and depending on when you arrive, this could be the best time of year to make your journey to Alabama. Your packing list should include sunscreen, sunglasses, swimsuits, and summer weight clothing and you may want to include one weather proof light jacket. Sandals and flip flops are always the shoe of the moment, unless you are planning on hiking—if so, you might want to pack some good hiking shoes.

Spring Events and Festivals
Car shows are popular at this time of the year, with the Bama Coast Cruisin’ Festival roaring into the Wharf April 23 through April 25, and although the dates are technically winter ones, the Orange Beach Festival of Art takes place March 14th and 15th at the Orange Beach Waterfront Park, offering a fantastic selection of masterpieces that will make wonderful souvenirs of your visit. The Hangout Music Festival is made even more popular because it is held on the pristine white sand beaches we are so proud of; this event will occur May 15 through 17 in 2026.
What to Do in the Spring in Gulf Shores and the Surrounding Towns
There’s a vibrancy to spring that makes it one of our favorite times of year, and as such, there is so much to do here, we simply can’t list it all! We don’t think we need to encourage you to go to the beach, however, because warmer temperatures and warmer turquoise waters are all the enticement most travelers need, but the beautiful weather in the spring may make it the perfect time to explore our parks. Gulf Shores State Park, for example, offers hiking trails, kayaking areas, playgrounds, and even more beaches to savor. Sunset cruises, especially ones that include a dolphin tour are guaranteed to be a hit for the entire family, and Jurassic Golf, a dinosaur themed miniature golf course, offers an idyllic family experience.
Summer Days, Summer Nights
As you might expect, summer is the most popular time of the year for visitors, especially as many travelers have to wait for their kids to be out of school to travel. This is the time of year when beaches will be more crowded, restaurants will have longer wait times, and the heat and humidity might convince you that staying in at least one day and hanging out at the pool in your Poole & Associates summer retreat sounds like an excellent idea!
The rains will fall, but on most days, the clouds roll in around midafternoon, the skies open up for a bit, and then, the clouds roll out again. Rainy days aren’t that much of an inconvenience or obstacle to fun in the Gulf Shores area, and honestly, neither are the crowds or lines. Life just moves at a slower pace when the temperatures rise up into the 90s, and the laidback vibe will make you feel you never want to leave. Pack light, don’t forget the sunscreen, and plan on an idyllic retreat that all other vacations will pale in comparison to!

Summer Events and Festivals
The warmer weather of summer keeps festivals to a minimum, but of course, on 4th of July, we go all out. There will be barbecues, live music, and the only appropriate ending to this day of celebration, a fireworks show over the Gulf with the colorful explosions reflected in the calm waters below. For many of our guests, they may find that they can see the fireworks from their balconies perched over turquoise waters, while others prefer to rent a boat and head out into the water watching the show from the best seats in town.
What to Do in the Summer on the Gulf Coast
Just like when you were a child and summer days stretched out before you with nothing planned while remaining full of possibility, that’s how your summer vacation in Gulf Shores will play out. Maybe you will spend days shopping at the Wharf, dipping in and out of air-conditioned stores, your arms laden with treasures, or maybe you will never leave the beach except to eat and sleep.
Daredevils may want to go shark fishing, the peak season happens to fall in the middle of summer, or those seeking peace, quiet, and a one-on-one battle with the denizens of the sea, may prefer dropping their lines in the quiet waters of Lake Shelby. Summer is when the child in you comes out to play and your Gulf Shores getaway will thrill that inner babe.
Welcoming Fall
Fall, especially early in the season, may be our favorite time of year in Gulf Shores. The humidity diminishes and the heat lessens its hold on us. Many travelers find themselves reentering reality as their children go back to school, and the less crowded beaches will make you feel as if you belong here, as if the beach is your own private sanctuary. There will be less competition for the Poole & Associates vacation rental of your dreams, and that slow pace of summer eases into a quiet and tranquil vibe.
Temperatures now lie somewhere between the high 60s and barely 80, depending on what part of fall your visit occurs, and there are fewer rainy days. Your suitcase should still contain sunscreen, sunglasses, swimsuits, and summer clothing and your relaxation levels will be at their peak, that’s a promise.

Fall Events and Festivals
The festivals return in the fall, including another favorite foodie event, the National Shrimp Festival, occurring on October 8 through October 11 in 2026. Offering four days of shrimp, music, arts, vendors, shrimp, beverages, fun, seafood—well, we think you get the point that there will be a LOT of shrimp and other types of seafood being celebrated at this tasty event!
As the fall holidays start to roll in, visitors can explore the Magnolia Corn Maze in nearby Summerdale or experience all manner of festive Christmas events, including holiday markets, visits with Santa (he drops in to the holidays by parachuting onto our beaches at the beginning of December), and of course, all the lights that just make the season more beautiful. The Wharf is always decorated especially well, and Santa has a temporary office there for children who may be worried he can’t find them when they are traveling over the holiday.
The Sky’s the Limit
The fall in Gulf Shores is such an idyllic time. There is nothing that you won’t be able to do! Hang out at the beach, take a class at the Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach, or watch the Blue Angels practice from your rented boat on a warm and wonderful autumn day. Nighttime kayak tours in lighted kayaks are popular, as are picnics in any parks and go kart rides at The Track Family Fun Park. You can also stay in for a day, exploring all the luxury amenities you can find in our Poole & Associates seasonal sanctuaries. The sky’s the limit when it comes to fun and adventure during a fall visit to the Gulf Shores area, and our town is sure to be your favorite place to visit!

Packing Made Easy
We’ve all been there. Packing for a family vacation is probably one of the most stressful parts of travel, especially for moms who generally are the people in charge of the luggage. We can assure you that most travelers do forget something important, including leashes for their dogs or even their favorite dog food. But that’s ok, the companies we have listed below will render it unnecessary to bring your pet’s favorite food and will have your back when it comes to anything you may have forgotten!

PetSmart, 2498 S McKenzie Street in Foley
We’re venturing a little further outside of Gulf Shores, simply because most people prefer familiarity when it comes to feeding their pet, and PetSmart, located all over the US, is usually the best place to find the food your pooch is already used to eating. Foley is a charming Alabama town, located just 11 miles outside of Gulf Shores, so the drive will be short and sweet, relieving your mind and getting the job done most expeditiously!
Posh Pets Boutique, 25753 Canal Road in Orange Beach
When you look into the warm brown eyes of your beautiful spaniel, all you see is love and adoration, and when you want to show how much she means to you, a visit to the Posh Pets Boutique should do it! Offering adorable pet accessories that are actually affordable, something you wouldn’t expect from a boutique, they also sell bones and treats, including the cutest dog cookies that actually look good enough for humans to eat. (They are not, so stay out of Sophie’s treats!)
Beach Dog, 1556 Gulf Shores Parkway #4 in Gulf Shores
Isn’t it funny how quickly your pup manages to find the stinkiest stuff to roll in? We are constantly shaking our heads at this furry phenomenon, and we make use of Beach Dog quite often because of it. Offering self-service dog wash stations, grooming services, and even dog walking, in case you are on an adventure where you had to leave your precious pug behind for more than a few hours, it is comforting knowing how close Beach Dog is to your beach retreat!
Just in Case
Vacations are supposed to be fun and lighthearted, and we sincerely hope that everything is absolutely wonderful during your stay, but life happens. We’ve spent more than a few nights on vacation in emergency rooms with our kids, and yes, that includes our pets, and since it is better to be prepared than not, we are offering information about emergency vets in the area. Or in this case, one specific emergency vet, VCA Magnolia by the Gulf, located at 19930 Oak Road West in Gulf Shores. We use this vet service ourselves when our pets are ill or hurt and we can assure you that the wonderful staff will offer caring and loving treatment to your most precious cargo, ensuring that your vacation will soon get back to being lighthearted and fun!

All the Fun You Will Have
Now that we have the necessities out of the way, it is time to play, and yes, our dog-friendly towns will offer plenty of activities that your entire family can participate in, not just hiking and bark parks. The activities listed below are just a sample of what you can expect when you are exploring all that makes the Gulf Shores area wonderful.
Unleashed in Orange Beach Dog Park, 27920 Canal Road in Orange Beach
Yes, there are more things to do than dog parks, but Unleashed in Orange Beach Dog Park is sure to be your pet’s favorite activity, offering a fenced playground for pets, water stations, and plenty of benches and shade for their human parents to relax as they get all their zoomies out with their new friends. It’s not often dogs are allowed to run free, and this wonderful bark park, divided into areas for big dogs and small dogs, really will be a highlight of your fantastic Frenchie’s Alabama adventures.
Nicole Fishing Charters, 1577 AL-180 in Gulf Shores
A day out on the water with the family is going to be the best day, and Nicole Fishing Charters invites your corgi to join in the fun! Offering more than just fishing charters, this company is proud of their dolphin watching tours, their sunset cruises, and of course, their angling adventures that may include shark fishing trips if you want to up the thrill levels. There is just something serene and peaceful about skimming across the water, and reasonable prices make this pet-friendly activity a viable one for tighter budgets.
The Wharf, 23101 Canal Road in Orange Beach
Shopping on vacation is a time-honored tradition, and the Wharf is one of the largest shopping centers in the area, offering entertainment and dining choices as well, and yes, it is a pet-friendly establishment. Not every store or restaurant will welcome your precious pooch, but enough will that we think your day of shopping will be most successful. Home to the Good Dog Boutique, offering a variety of dog accessories, they also sell dog breed accessories for humans, including purses and tees.
Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail, 24037 Perdido Beach Boulevard in Orange Beach
The beauty of the Alabama landscape deserves to be experienced up close and a hike along the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail is our favorite way to do so. Leashed dogs are welcomed on the 28-mile-long trail that takes guests through a variety of ecosystems, including freshwater marshes and coastal hardwood swamps. The trail connects Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, winding along some of the most stunning landscape in the world while also offering glimpses of some of our local wildlife and will be an adventure your entire family will remember happily, even if you don’t complete the entire 28 miles!

Pet-Friendly Events in the Gulf Shores Area
The events that take place in Gulf Shores offer a peek into what makes our town special, and sometimes those events are pet-friendly, including the National Shrimp Festival that occurs every October. For over 50 years, we have been celebrating the most delicious crustacean with a festival that offers all type of seafood but pays special attention to the shrimp.
Offering four days of food, fun, and music, there will be arts and crafts for the kids, a sand sculpture contest for whoever is interested, and shrimp festival races that will make you feel better about all the food you have just consumed. Crab cakes, conch fritters, lobster, and shrimp cooked in all the ways, this delicious festival is also dog-friendly, as long as your pet stays on its leash and is well-mannered. We really don’t want any food catastrophes!
Blessing of the Animals, 14755 Oak Street in Magnolia Springs
This next event involves another road trip, this time to the charming town of Magnolia Springs (Even the name is charming, don’t you think?) in time for the Blessing of the Animals. Held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Chapel and celebrating the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, blessings and collar medals are given to each dog, ensuring that your poodle will be the best accessorized at your local bark park!
Time to Dine
Nearly every vacation tale you tell will usually involve a meal you had at a local restaurant, and there will be no reason to leave your four-legged babies behind when you visit these local pet-friendly restaurants in the Gulf Shores area.
Woodside Restaurant, 20249 State Park Road in Gulf Shores
Southern food is different from other foods, simply because every dish is created with love, and Woodside Restaurant is a perfect example. This is where you will have the best brisket and gravy while sharing an outdoor table with your traveling dog and will probably be the source of one of your favorite vacation tales!
Tacky Jack’s 2, 1577 AL-180 in Gulf Shores
Combining food, fun, and family is what Tacky Jack’s 2 does best—oh, and spoiling your dog too, of course. Pets are welcomed and fawned over on the deck overlooking the Gulf. Also offering karaoke at Jack’s Bar downstairs (although we aren’t sure dogs are welcome there), this exciting eatery offers an iconic Gulf Shores experience for the whole family. And although everything on the menu is delicious and mouthwatering, we suggest that you have to try their Mexican Garbage, their version of nachos!
The Beach House Kitchen & Cocktails, 1154 W Beach Boulevard in Gulf Shores

A Gulf Shores area vacation is a great idea any time of the year, but during the peak tourist seasons, it can be crowded and somewhat chaotic here, which is why the most discerning of travelers choose to visit in the off-season. Offering a different vibe, your Gulf Shores vacation will still be fun and exciting but it will also be calmer, quieter, and perhaps even more satisfying to your soul. The one thing that never changes, however, is the comfort, luxury, and hospitality our Poole & Associates vacation sanctuaries provide to every guest who stays within, and this guide to the top reasons to visit during the Gulf Shores off-season will begin and end with the wonders of our beautiful escapes!
First, When Is Off-Season?
The off-season in Gulf Shores has always been late fall to winter, and as the rest of the world is gearing up for school and the holidays, you could be choosing to explore everything that makes Gulf Shores special. Will it be warm enough to swim in November or December? We would give a December swim a firm no, but in November it really just depends on your tolerance for cooler water. The air temperatures will still be considered swim worthy, but the water will have started to cool down, and although there is definitely no chance of hypothermia, if you are travelling to Alabama from warmer zones, you may not be comfortable doing much more than walking barefoot along shore’s edge. October is considered shoulder season, however, offering fewer crowds and perfect temperatures for swimming, so you may want to consider traveling at that time.

Fewer Crowds, More Rental Choices
We aren’t saying that we offer more rentals in the off-season, that would be silly, but we are saying because there are less people visiting, we will have more rentals open, giving you a greater selection and ensuring that you really can rent your dream come true vacation accommodations without too much risk of someone else snapping it up! This may be the time that you decide to have a family reunion, booking our largest spaces and discovering that as beautiful as Gulf Shores can be in the summer, an off-season visit really gives the town the opportunity to shine brighter. And while you are relaxing in the lap of luxury with your favorite people, you may decide that this travel choice is going to become your newest family tradition!
Fewer Crowds, More Open Beaches
Whether you are visiting during the shoulder season or the off-season, the first thing you will notice (after having your breath taken away by the stunning beauty of our vacation rentals!) is how open the beaches are. This is the time of year we locals love the most, almost feeling as if we are getting our town back, and even if it is too cold to swim during your time in Gulf Shores, a day at the beach is still a great idea. There will be less chance of rain, the sun will be shining, and travelers with small children will appreciate the one on one time they get with their kids as they build sandcastles, dipping their buckets in the water to ensure the right consistency of sand for their construction purposes. There are all kinds of beach games that you and your older kiddos can enjoy playing on the beach, including a beach version of cornhole, and because there are less crowds at the beach, you can set the boards the regulation distance of 27 feet away from each other and not have to worry about running into other beach goers!
Fewer Crowds, Shorter Wait Times at Restaurants
Because there is nothing worse than a hangry spouse or child, we really appreciate the shorter wait times at our favorite restaurants. Walking in and getting a table immediately is often considered a unicorn experience in the summer months, but in the off-season, it is more common than not. Additionally, because your server has more time on their hands, they may be able to chat with you more, offering hints and tips about the best things to see and do while you’re here, something that will always be appreciated. And finally, when you find that restaurant that makes your stomach sigh with happiness and your taste buds sing, feeling like a local will add to the charm when you return more than once. De Soto’s Seafood Kitchen, 138 W 1st Avenue, is one of our favorite seafood restaurants, one that will be patronized by many of the locals and offering seafood that is also locally sourced!

Events and Festivals Offer an Authentic Peek into Life in Gulf Shores
We have often said that the best way to understand and get to know the town you are visiting is by attending one of their favorite events, and that fact is even more true during the off-season. We aren’t trying to impress travelers, we just want to throw a big party and celebrate with our friends and neighbors, and if you are visiting at the time, we will consider you a friend as well. (Southerners are friendly that way!) Below, we have listed a few of our favorite shoulder and off-season events and festivals to help you nail down which month you want to visit during!
Annual Shrimp Festival, Second Week in October, Gulf Shores Public Beach
For four days in October, the planets align, the stars shine brighter, and all is good in our world as we attend the Annual Shrimp Festival, an event that has been a local tradition for over 50 years. Spoiler alert: This is going to be the one time during shoulder season that there may be MORE crowds at the beach, with over 300,000 people attending, but when you taste the food and beverages offered by over 50 vendors, we don’t think you will mind the crowds! Chances are your Poole & Associates retreat will be within walking distance, and you may even be able to hear the live music that will be playing every day from your balcony, so you won’t have to worry about parking. Alabama shrimp is worth celebrating, and we do it in a big way!

Experience the Oyster, First Weekend in November, The Hangout, 101 E Beach Boulevard
Yeah, we eat a lot of seafood in Gulf Shores, but when you taste your first Murder Point Oyster, you will more than understand the appeal, and Experience the Oyster may just become your favorite event. Offering two days of oysters harvested from the best oyster farms in the area, there will be special chef appearances, chances to meet the oyster farmers, and a Friday VIP Kickoff Dinner that will cost more to attend, but everything you see will be included in your ticket price, including the oyster bar, appetizers, beer, and wine. This event is held at Zeke’s Restaurant, 26619 Perdido Beach Boulevard in Orange Beach, and a cash bar will be available for cocktails.
Annual Christmas Lighted Boat Parade, Second Saturday in December
The crowds do begin to pick up a little as Christmas appears on the horizon, but the festive spirit will make you glad you took advantage of our Snowbird Special (more about that later!) and chose to spend the winter on our gorgeous beaches. There will be many, many events during the holiday season, of course, but we love the charm of the Annual Christmas Lighted Boat Parade that starts at Lulu’s Gulf Shores and ends at the Wharf in Orange Beach. Arrive early to Lulu’s if you want a table, otherwise the boat parade can be viewed at any spot along the canal, providing a magical nighttime experience your kiddos will never forget!
Save Money, Visit Gulf Shores During the Off-Season
We haven’t quite saved the best for last—there is still one more benefit to an off-season Gulf Shores vacation—but we did see your eyes brighten at the thought of saving money! Vacations are expensive, but during the off-season, a surprising reduction in rates begins to take place, and if you don’t take advantage of it, you will regret it.
Airline Tickets
It starts with the price of your flight from your home to ours. As fewer people are flying, airlines hate seeing their profits plummet, so they will begin to offer lower ticket prices for the more popular tourist destinations, including Gulf Shores! Of course, if you live in Georgia, or any of our other Southern states, you may just want to start planning a road trip and save even more, especially if you have a family and don’t want to purchase four or more tickets for everyone to fly.
Big Sales in the Shops
Our shop owners do plan for making less money in the off-season, but if they can recoup their losses by offering steep discounts on their merchandise, who is going to blame them for trying? The off-season is also a great time to clear out their summer stock, so you can probably find even steeper discounts on swimwear, beach gear, even sunglasses and sandals. And because shopping is one of our favorite things to do while on vacation, you may want to pack light and utilize the washers and dryers in your Poole & Associates retreat, but bring the big suitcase for souvenirs!

Lodging Prices Are Lower
And yes, we have saved the best for last, reminding you that your Poole & Associates Gulf Shores sanctuary will cost you less during the off-season. Just imagine: You get all the same amenities, comforts, and luxuries as you would in the summer, but are paying so much less! Additionally, if you have the ability, most of our owners will offer even more discounted prices, the Snowbird Special we mentioned earlier, if you choose to stay throughout the winter. Obviously, unless you work from home, this won’t be an option for most travelers, especially those with children, but our seniors love the discount so much they have been known to return every year, flying south for the winter and enjoying all our beautiful town has to offer for an entire season.
Come Home to Poole & Associates
Southern hospitality is renowned throughout the world, and we at Poole & Associates take that hospitality to new heights, giving our guests a vacation experience they wish never had to end. It’s not just the high-end appliances, plush and comfortable furnishings, and our beachfront locations; it’s the personality and spirit of each space we offer. Step inside to rooms filled with light and warmth and feel the welcoming that we offer to all of our guests, no matter what time of year they are visiting. Feeling at home while so many miles away from your own home is something we want everyone to feel, but we also want you to feel spoiled and pampered as well, and so of course, we go the extra mile! Want to know the best restaurants, we will tell you, need to know where the nearest pharmacy may be, you might find that info in the information book found in many of our retreats, and when you feel the need for a road trip, well, just visit our page and we are sure there is some content that will help you explore beyond our city limits!
Find Your Sanctuary
Every property we offer is designed to be a sanctuary for tired travelers, a soft place to land at the end of every adventure-filled day, and if you find yourself thinking of the soft beds topped with even softer linens as you explore Gulf Shores, we know we have done our jobs right. Reserve your favorite Poole & Associates off-season vacation rental in Gulf Shores today!
For many travelers, the thought of a beach vacation immediately brings to mind summer—crowded shores, hot sunshine, and bustling boardwalks. But what if the best time to experience the Gulf Coast is actually when the peak crowds have gone home? Gulf Shores, Alabama is a destination that shines year-round, and visiting during the Gulf Shores off-season offers a unique perspective that many guests overlook.
From fewer crowds to better rates, mild weather, and a relaxed pace, the off-season provides an opportunity to enjoy Gulf Shores in a way that feels both personal and restorative. Whether you’re looking for a holiday retreat, a quiet romantic getaway, or simply a chance to slow down, there are endless reasons to visit during the quieter months. Pair that with the comfort and value of a private rental booked directly through Poole & Associates, and you’ll see why the off-season is not just a good choice—it might be the best one.
This guide will explore why Gulf Shores is worth visiting in the off-season, what makes it so special, what to pack, and why booking your vacation rental direct with Poole & Associates ensures a smooth and memorable trip.
What Counts as the Off-Season in Gulf Shores?
In Gulf Shores, peak season typically covers the summer months when schools are out and families flock to the coast, as well as the busy weeks of spring break. The off-season generally refers to fall and winter, from September through February, when the energy of summer winds down and the beaches take on a calmer atmosphere.
During this time, the pace slows. You’ll notice shorter lines at restaurants, more open space on the sand, and a quieter overall vibe. It’s a refreshing shift that allows you to fully appreciate the natural beauty of the Gulf without the hustle and bustle of summer crowds. For many, the off-season feels like discovering a hidden side of Gulf Shores—one that’s just as beautiful, but more intimate and unhurried.

Fewer Crowds, More Space to Relax
One of the most appealing reasons to visit Gulf Shores in the off-season is the drop in crowd levels. In summer, the beaches fill quickly with vacationers, restaurants require long waits, and popular attractions can feel congested. By contrast, the fall and winter months create a completely different atmosphere.
Imagine walking down stretches of white sand with hardly anyone around, the sound of waves as your only soundtrack. Picture enjoying a meal at a popular restaurant without needing to book weeks in advance. The difference is remarkable, and for many travelers, it’s exactly what makes the off-season so special.
At your vacation rental with Poole & Associates, the quieter environment enhances your stay even more. Mornings become peaceful moments on your balcony with a cup of coffee, afternoons feel leisurely and free, and evenings can be spent in complete comfort without interruptions. The reduced crowds give you room to breathe and connect with your surroundings in a way that peak season often doesn’t allow.
Better Rates and Greater Value
Another major advantage of off-season travel is affordability. During peak summer months, the demand for vacation rentals skyrockets, driving prices higher. In the off-season, when fewer travelers are competing for the same properties, rates become much more budget-friendly.
This is particularly important if you’re planning a longer trip or traveling with a larger group. By booking your stay directly with Poole & Associates, you’ll not only take advantage of these seasonal savings but also avoid unnecessary third-party service fees. That means you’re getting the best possible rate and stretching your vacation budget further.
Better rates don’t mean a compromise on quality. On the contrary, the off-season often gives you access to some of the most desirable properties—condos with panoramic views, spacious homes with multiple bedrooms, or private retreats designed for relaxation. Instead of choosing from what’s left, you’ll have your pick of the best.

Mild and Comfortable Weather
Many travelers assume the beach is only enjoyable in the heat of summer, but Gulf Shores’ off-season weather is a pleasant surprise. Fall in Gulf Shores is warm and inviting, with average highs ranging from the mid-70s in September to the 60s in November. The water remains comfortable into early fall, and cooler evenings are perfect for wearing light layers while enjoying outdoor dining or cozying up at your rental.
Winter is mild compared to much of the country. Average highs hover in the 50s and 60s, with cooler nights in the 40s. While it’s not prime swimming weather, it’s ideal for outdoor adventures like hiking, biking, fishing, or simply strolling the beach without the intensity of summer sun. Sunsets during these months are particularly stunning, painting the sky with hues of pink, orange, and purple against the calm Gulf waters.
This mild climate makes Gulf Shores a wonderful off-season escape for those looking to avoid harsh winters elsewhere. You can trade snow shovels and icy roads for sandy beaches and crisp, refreshing air.
A Relaxed Atmosphere
The off-season transforms Gulf Shores into a destination that feels slower, calmer, and more personal. Without the crowds, the town takes on a laid-back rhythm that allows you to savor the little things. Shops feel more inviting, locals have more time to chat, and the whole experience feels more authentic.
For travelers seeking rest and rejuvenation, this atmosphere is a huge draw. Instead of rushing from one activity to another, you can truly take your time. Sleep in, enjoy leisurely meals, or spend long afternoons reading by the water. The slower pace of the off-season makes every moment feel like a luxury.
At your Poole & Associates rental, the relaxed atmosphere continues. You’ll have space to spread out, enjoy quiet evenings with your family, and make the most of private amenities without distractions. The off-season gives you permission to slow down—and sometimes, that’s exactly what a vacation should be about.

Unique Seasonal Charm
Visiting Gulf Shores during the off-season gives you the chance to experience the area in a new light. Fall brings crisp air, vibrant sunsets, and a sense of calm after the summer rush. It’s the perfect backdrop for family photos, romantic getaways, or peaceful retreats.
Winter, meanwhile, brings its own kind of magic. The holiday season feels cozy and intimate by the water, with the chance to host family dinners or celebrations in your vacation rental. Imagine celebrating Thanksgiving with the Gulf as your backdrop, enjoying Christmas morning in a beachfront home, or toasting the new year on your private balcony. These moments feel even more special because they blend familiar traditions with the beauty of the beach.
For many travelers, these off-season experiences become lasting traditions. Once you discover the charm of Gulf Shores during this time of year, it’s hard to imagine celebrating the holidays anywhere else.
Why Book Direct with Poole & Associates
No matter when you visit, your accommodations play a central role in shaping your experience. That’s why booking your vacation rental directly with Poole & Associates is the smartest choice for travelers.
When you book direct, you’re guaranteed the best available rates without the hidden service fees that third-party platforms often tack on. You’ll also gain access to the most current inventory, ensuring you can choose the property that fits your group’s needs perfectly.
Booking direct also connects you with a local team who knows Gulf Shores inside and out. Our staff can provide guidance, answer questions, and offer personalized support that generic booking sites simply can’t. And most importantly, booking with Poole & Associates ensures your rental will be exactly as advertised. No surprises, no scams, just reliable, high-quality properties designed to make your Gulf Shores getaway unforgettable.

Why Choose a Rental Over a Hotel
When planning a vacation, some travelers debate whether to book a hotel or a vacation rental. While hotels might work for short trips, the advantages of a rental become clear, especially during the off-season.
Rentals provide more space, allowing families or groups to stay together under one roof. You’ll have living areas for gathering, kitchens for preparing meals, and private bedrooms for comfort. This setup is especially valuable during the holidays when shared meals and family time are at the heart of the celebration.
Having a full kitchen is another key benefit. Instead of relying on dining out for every meal, you can cook your favorite recipes, prepare snacks, or host a festive dinner in your rental. It’s both cost-effective and meaningful, adding a sense of home to your trip.
Privacy is another factor. Unlike hotels, rentals give you quiet, personal spaces without noisy hallways or crowded lobbies. And with many rentals offering outdoor decks, patios, or balconies, you’ll have even more room to enjoy your time together.
Finally, rentals are often a better value for groups. The cost of renting one home is frequently less than booking multiple hotel rooms, especially when you consider the savings from cooking meals and having more amenities included.
Weather in Gulf Shores During the Off-Season
The off-season weather in Gulf Shores is one of its biggest draws. Fall offers warm but comfortable days, averaging in the 70s and 80s in September and cooling into the 60s by November. The water remains inviting well into early fall, extending the beach season beyond summer.
Winter delivers cooler but mild conditions, with highs in the 50s and 60s and nights in the 40s. It’s perfect for outdoor activities that might feel overwhelming in the summer heat. Whether you’re hiking, biking, or simply enjoying long walks along the sand, the weather is pleasant and refreshing.
These mild conditions make Gulf Shores an attractive destination for snowbirds, couples, or families seeking a winter escape. Instead of braving icy temperatures up north, you can enjoy the charm of the coast without extremes.

Things to Pack for an Off-Season Visit
Packing for the off-season requires a balance of warm-weather staples and cool-weather layers. Bring lightweight clothing for daytime paired with sweaters or jackets for evenings. Comfortable shoes are a must for both casual outings and more active adventures.
Don’t forget beach essentials like sunglasses, sunscreen, and a tote for carrying blankets or towels to the shore. Even in the cooler months, the sun can be strong, so protection is key.
For personal care, pack moisturizer and lip balm to combat the drier winter air. A small first-aid kit, hand sanitizer, and wipes are useful for any trip.
For entertainment, bring along books, games, or puzzles to enjoy cozy evenings in your rental. Chargers, cameras, and power banks are essential to capture and share your off-season adventures.
The goal is to prepare for versatility—days spent outdoors, evenings spent relaxing indoors, and holiday celebrations that feel warm and special.
Making the Most of Your Off-Season Trip
Visiting Gulf Shores in the off-season is not about missing out—it’s about gaining a new perspective. The quieter beaches, relaxed pace, and affordable rates create an experience that’s hard to replicate in peak season. You’ll have more time to focus on the people you’re with, the beauty around you, and the joy of simply slowing down.
When you book your Gulf Shores beach house rental directly with Poole & Associates, you’ll have the perfect home base for your stay. Spacious, comfortable, and equipped with everything you need, our Gulf Shores villas are designed to make your off-season getaway seamless and memorable.

Why Book Direct with Poole & Associates?
Booking your vacation rental directly with Poole & Associates isn’t just convenient—it’s the smartest choice for travelers who value peace of mind, savings, and personalized service.

Booking direct makes those requests easier to manage.

Why Choose a Rental Over a Hotel Room
When planning your Gulf Shores holiday trip, you might wonder if you should book a hotel or a vacation rental. While hotels may seem convenient, there’s no comparison when it comes to comfort and flexibility—especially during the holidays.
Holiday travel is often about spending time together, and Gulf Shores Alabama beach rentals provide space hotels simply can’t. Instead of being split into separate hotel rooms, your entire group can gather under one roof. Living rooms, dining areas, and outdoor spaces make it easy to share meals, play games, and enjoy each other’s company.
One of the most important parts of any holiday is food. Having a full kitchen in your rental allows you to cook your favorite holiday recipes, prepare snacks, or even host a festive dinner. It’s an experience hotels can’t replicate, and it turns your vacation rental into the heart of your holiday celebrations.
Hotels often come with noisy hallways, shared amenities, and limited privacy. A rental gives you the freedom to relax without interruption. Whether it’s enjoying your morning coffee on a private balcony or winding down by the fire after a long day, the comfort of a rental makes your holiday that much more enjoyable.
Booking multiple hotel rooms for a family or group can be expensive. A rental often costs less per person, especially when you factor in the ability to cook meals and avoid extra dining expenses. It’s a smarter, more economical choice without sacrificing quality.

Weather in Gulf Shores During the Holidays
One of the biggest perks of spending your holidays in Gulf Shores is the weather. While much of the country is bundling up against snow and ice, Gulf Shores enjoys a mild coastal climate.
Thanksgiving in November brings average highs in the mid-60s, with cooler evenings in the 40s and 50s—perfect for beach walks and outdoor dining. By Christmas in December, temperatures hover in the upper 50s to low 60s, with chilly but manageable evenings. A light jacket and layers will keep you comfortable. As the new year arrives in January, you can expect highs in the 50s and 60s with crisp evenings in the 40s.
While it may not be swimming season, the Gulf’s beauty is undeniable during the holidays. Sunsets are vibrant, the beaches are less crowded, and the atmosphere is serene—ideal for a relaxing holiday escape. The weather allows for long walks, family photos, and outdoor gatherings without the extremes of either summer heat or northern winters.
Things to Pack for a Holiday Trip to Gulf Shores
Packing for Gulf Shores during the holidays requires a balance of beach essentials and cool-weather items.
For clothing, think layers. Pack light tops and breathable fabrics for the daytime, along with sweaters, hoodies, or jackets for evenings. Comfortable walking shoes are great for exploring, while sandals or slip-ons are perfect for the beach. Holiday outfits for festive dinners or special gatherings should also make their way into your bag.
For the beach and outdoors, pack sunglasses, sunscreen, and hats or caps for daytime outings. A beach tote with towels and blankets is handy for shoreline strolls or sitting by the water. A reusable water bottle will keep you hydrated, especially during active days.
Personal care items should include moisturizer and lip balm to combat cooler, dry air. Bring along your basic toiletries and any medications you need, as well as hand sanitizer and wipes for travel convenience. A small first-aid kit is always a smart addition.
Entertainment and extras bring comfort to your stay. Books, games, or puzzles are perfect for cozy evenings at your rental. Don’t forget chargers, power banks, and cameras to capture holiday memories. If you’re planning to cook, bring along a few favorite ingredients or snacks to enjoy in your rental’s kitchen.

Making Holiday Memories in Gulf Shores
The holidays are about creating moments that last, and Gulf Shores provides the perfect setting. With its quiet beaches, mild weather, and relaxed pace, it’s a destination where you can truly unwind. Staying in a rental booked directly through Poole & Associates takes that experience to the next level, giving you the freedom and comfort to celebrate the season your way.
You can decorate your rental with festive touches, prepare a family meal in the kitchen, or simply sit on the balcony with a cup of cocoa as the sun sets over the Gulf. These small but meaningful moments are what transform a vacation into a memory. Instead of being confined by hotel walls or dealing with the uncertainty of third-party bookings, you’ll enjoy a stay that feels personalized and reliable.
The joy of the holidays is about connection, and having a spacious rental means there’s room for everyone to come together. Imagine watching holiday movies in the living room, cooking a favorite recipe in the kitchen, or playing board games with the family after a long day on the beach. These are the traditions that make holiday travel to Gulf Shores so special.
Tips for Stress-Free Holiday Travel to Gulf Shores
The holidays are exciting, but travel during this time of year can also be hectic. With busy airports, crowded highways, and family schedules to juggle, it’s worth planning ahead to ensure your trip to Gulf Shores is smooth from beginning to end.
First, make your travel arrangements early. Flights and rental cars often book quickly around the holidays, and prices climb the closer you get to your departure date. By locking in your plans early, you’ll save both money and stress. If you’re driving to Gulf Shores, check your route for potential holiday traffic and allow extra time for stops along the way.
Second, consider creating a flexible schedule. While you might be tempted to pack your days full of activities, leaving room for downtime will make the holiday feel more like a true vacation. Gulf Shores offers plenty of options for both relaxation and adventure, so you won’t feel rushed.
Lastly, keep your rental in mind when planning. When you book direct with Poole & Associates, you’ll have access to a home or condo that gives you space to unpack, unwind, and prepare for the holiday season at your own pace. Knowing you have a private and comfortable space to return to makes every part of the trip easier. With a little preparation, your holiday getaway to Gulf Shores can be as stress-free as it is unforgettable.

Creating Holiday Traditions in Gulf Shores
Holidays are all about traditions, but sometimes the best memories are made by starting new ones. A trip to Gulf Shores allows you to blend your family’s usual customs with fresh experiences unique to the beach.
Imagine waking up on Christmas morning and heading to the shore for a sunrise walk before opening gifts back at your rental. Or picture hosting a Thanksgiving meal with fresh seafood alongside traditional holiday favorites. Gulf Shores makes these moments possible by giving you a setting that’s both festive and unique.
For families, decorating your vacation rental can add a touch of holiday magic. A few lights, stockings, or even a small tree can make your space feel just like home. Children especially love seeing holiday traditions carried out in a new setting, and it makes the trip even more special.
Couples and friends might start their own rituals, such as toasting the new year on the balcony while overlooking the Gulf or sharing a holiday brunch on the patio. The beauty of a Gulf Shores holiday is that you have the freedom to design the experience exactly how you want it.
When you book direct with Poole & Associates, you’ll have the perfect backdrop for creating these holiday traditions. Spacious kitchens, cozy living areas, and private outdoor spaces make it easy to celebrate in comfort. Over time, these new traditions may become your family’s favorite way to spend the holidays—together at the beach, surrounded by warmth and joy.

Your beach vacation is about family, and whether you are traveling with your own nuclear family, with multiple generations, or are maybe just traveling with your spouse and kids but have family in the area, this summer getaway is the perfect time to host a family pool party! Our beachy sanctuaries offer luxury, charm, comfort, and the choice of community or private pools and this guide to hosting a pool party will show you just how much more fun you can have during your Alabama Gulf Coast vacation when you choose our rentals with pools!
The First Choice with No Wrong Answers
As you begin your search for a vacation property, your first choice will be between a condo and a standalone home, and although you might think that you HAVE to choose a standalone home to host a pool party, we are happy to explain that as long as you are respectful of other guests who are swimming, you can rent a condo and still host your family pool party, giving you the best of both worlds. Our Gulf Shores condos are smaller than our standalone homes but they still offer room for small families and all the luxuries you have come to expect from Poole & Associates as well as those stunning Gulf Views. Some of our smaller resort communities will offer a more private vacation experience, offering fewer condos and more of a duplex type adventure.

No Sacrifices
Before we start to talk about hosting a pool party, we want to take a few minutes to talk about all the wonderful extras our Gulf Shores beachfront condos and homes will provide, starting with the condominiums. These 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom beachfront charmers do offer everything you expect from our vacation homes, just on a smaller scale. Open concept floor plans allow guests to stay connected as they do their own things in spacious living rooms, dining rooms (or dining areas) and kitchens that truly are the heart of the home.
As you begin to start planning your pool party, you already know that food will need to be a part of it, and you can choose to order in from some of our local restaurants or putter around our kitchens creating the meals your family love. Board games may still be played around the dining tables and movie nights will still be a highlight of your vacation activities, especially on a rainy night. There is something cozy and wonderful watching a movie and eating fresh popped popcorn as the rain falls outside, and you may even open the sliding glass doors that lead to balconies perched over the sea to hear the rain and the crash of waves against sandy beaches as you do so, adding a moody ambience to the magic of your night.
Community Amenities
Community amenities add to the excitement of renting a condo, and our different communities will offer a variety of amenities, including the all-important pool (some communities offer indoor pools as well) for you to explore. Hot tubs and saunas may be found in some communities, something most appreciated when you overdo it trying to learn to surf or even when you first arrive and your muscles are aching from traveling all those miles in the cramped confines of today’s airplanes. Barbecue areas can be of utmost importance to the success of your pool party, providing an alternative way to provide food for your group and helping to keep you out of the kitchen as much as possible. Sports courts, including basketball, tennis, or sand volleyball courts, give guests more ways to play during the times they decide to stay home, and fitness centers will enable travelers to keep up with their workout routines, even while they are exploring paradise.
The Views That Will Make Your Heart Sing
The views from the balcony of your Poole & Associates condo is one way in particular that choosing a condo over a standalone home may be the better idea. Although all our properties are near or on the beach, far more of our condos offer those balconies that allow you to see as far as the eye can go, offering stunning views of sunrises, sunsets, or just slice of life scenes from the beachgoers below. The best naps are often taken on these balconies as sea breezes and the roar of the surf lull guests into a supreme state of lethargy, and if conversations held out here are often punctuated with exclamations, sighs, and murmurs of disbelief, then you are living your best life during your beach vacation in Gulf Shores—or Orange Beach or Fort Morgan!

Welcome Home
We’re good at a lot of things, both at Poole & Associates and in the South in general, but our hospitality is perhaps one of the things at which we are best. Guests are welcomed with big hugs and smiles, fed until they wobble, and enjoyed wholeheartedly, and although there won’t be anyone to greet you when you step inside your Gulf Shores home sweet vacation home for the first time, it will feel as if you are being greeted with a big hug and a smile. These spaces are light, bright, warm, and welcoming, reminding you that even when you feel out of place in the real world, right here, right now in our Alabama coastal town, you are wanted and adored. Wide front porches are furnished with cheerful chairs, inviting you to sit, sip sweet tea (or mint juleps, this is the beach after all!), and watch the world go by, probably waving at complete strangers as you do. (It’s a Southern thing) Living rooms, kitchens, and dining rooms share one big space, and because we value the importance of a good conversation, there may even be conversation areas, with no television, no games, just a selection of seats placed close together so you can whisper about your crazy neighbors back home, all the while picking up the Southern habit of “blessing their hearts.”
Through the Back Doors
It is the backyards of our standalone homes where you will find the greatest difference from condos, offering an oasis of fun and relaxation that will never grow tiresome. If you thought the porches on the front of our Alabama retreats were special, just wait until you step out onto the back ones. Large, bright, and often screened, there may be rocking chairs, porch swings, or cushioned chairs and sofas designed for outside use. Sometimes you may look up and notice the ceiling of the back porch is painted a beautiful shade of blue, a blue we historically called “haunt blue,” as they were supposed to guard against visits by unwanted spirits. In our spaces, however, they are simply a décor choice, as there are no ghosts in our Poole & Associates escapes! Also out here is the pool where you will host that family pool party, possibly a private hot tub, and in some cases, outdoor kitchens or bars. It’s always the right time for a party, pool or not, and your outdoor times in our backyards will be memorable ones.
The Pool Party You’ve Been Waiting For
Before we go any further, let’s talk guest lists. Obviously, your guest list won’t be a long one, but it will be an important one because it will feature all the people you love the most, your family. The nuclear family of parents and children, grown siblings traveling together with their spouses and children, or maybe just grandma tagging along for the ride; all are invited and all are important to the success of your backyard bash. Some properties may feature sound systems, allowing guests to play the yacht rock music that accompanies the best barbecues, but if not, internet will allow you to stream your favorite Spotify stations, ensuring that music will accompany your celebration. The scent of barbecued meat, the laughter of family, the splash of happy children practicing their best jumps into the cool blue waters, all of these are the most necessary ingredients to complete the recipe of wonderful, the family pool party you never knew your life was missing until you experienced it for yourself!

Your Condo Pool Party Will Look a Bit Different
As we mentioned earlier, it is entirely possible to host a family pool party at the community pool, it just might look a little different. Maybe you won’t play music, or if you do, it will be kept at a much lower volume than it would be in a home, and maybe your guests may include that sweet 6 year old your own child befriended, someone she will never see again but will declare her best friend as they splash together in the shared waters of the pool. Barbecue areas will still enable guests to barbecue, and pools that are much larger than the private ones will give you and your family plenty of room to splash happily. As some of our condo communities offer indoor pools, one more advantage to picking a condo over a home is the ability to hold a pool party even as the rain falls to the ground outside. All that we ask is that you keep noise levels lower and be respectful of any other guests who may be sharing the pool with you and your family.
Carrying Sleepy Toddlers to Bed
As day slides into night and wrinkled fingers signify that it is time to call an end to the pool party festivities, carrying your already sleeping toddlers back inside shows you that you still have more to explore, both in our condos and our homes. We are of course talking about the bedrooms, spacious, tranquil, and dominated by the comfort of premium beds topped with high thread count linens, inviting you to slide between the covers and slip away into a deep and restful slumber. En suite baths in our homes may provide another form of water fun, deep tubs that are ideal for soaking away any troubles that you may still have lingering in the deepest recesses of your soul. Soft and fluffy towels, showerheads offering sprays of water strong enough to wash away every grain of sand that may be hiding in the nooks and crannies of your body. State of the art televisions will be in all primary suites and in most secondary rooms and some secondary rooms may be furnished with bunks to give your child a thrilling sleeping experience. We can’t be held responsible for late night whispers, giggles, or squabbles, but we can reassure you that sleep won’t be far off for your wiggly youngsters; the pool party most certainly tired them out!

Not Every Pool Party Has to Be at a Pool
If that sounds contradictory, just look at the Gulf that lies just a short distance away from your Gulf Shores sanctuaries as a really large, really salty, and somewhat crowded pool. A “pool party” on white sand beaches can offer all of the above, just recognize that there will be some party crashers in the form of the sea creatures that make the Gulf their home! Our proximity to the beach ensures that everything you can do in your backyard can be done on the beach and you may decide that you never want to venture far from sandy shores. The best vacations are beach vacations and all our properties are located on or near the water, ensuring that this vacation will be the one that sets the stage for future vacations to fail miserably, simply because they won’t all be at the beach!

The trail is an easy hike or bike, as it’s mostly a flat surface, but the eastern end of the trail has only a few gentle climbs – making it easy for groups of all skill levels to enjoy. Add some difficulty on the eastern end and continue on through Gulf State Park’s Hugh Branyon Backcountry Trails.
Gulf Shores Dog Park
For families or groups bringing along their pets, Gulf Shores has plenty of fun for them, too. The Gulf Shores Dog Park has a large fenced-in green area where both large and small dogs can get their zoomies out. Humans can sit and socialize themselves, but make sure to keep an eye on your pup and clean up after them using the provided waste bag stations. You can bring water for yourself, but the park provides water for pets!
Gulf Shores Museum
If you didn’t know much about Gulf Shores before you arrived, here’s your chance. The Gulf Shores Museum is located in a house that dates back to before World War II and stood as the beach house of Valerie Cole’s family from Mobile. Originally built in West Beach, the family donated the structure, and it was moved from that original location to its current home after Hurricane Frederic in 1979. The museum houses many permanent and temporary exhibits that tell the story of Gulf Shores’ history and offers various programs and activities for all ages and many interests throughout the year.
Gulf State Park
Wander two miles of Gulf beachfront, swim, surf, build sand castles, and enjoy any and all of the beach activities you can think of. The park also has a beach pavilion where you can picnic or gather to celebrate together. If there are anglers in the group, they’ll want to bring some gear and spend some time at the pier. For groups looking for an adventure, try kayaking or even parasailing!
